My guess would be it's to stop runaway database queries, like where someone searches for 'cunt' on 14 years worth of posts.
You're correct - I used to deploy Xenforo & admin a few forums on the back-end, never on the front end. Dealing with Users is just not my thing...

You have to limit searches as you could use them to exploit the platform, depending on the resources allocated to it's instance.

There are addons you can deploy but hey - it is what it is innit.

My comment was based on experience in the wider software industry. We once delivered a completely new system based on a legacy technology. Part of the deal was we'd migrate the entire historical database. It did work, but on day 1 client tester #1 decided to do a 'show me everything from ever' query. Needless to say, we had to protect them from their own stupidity as a result.

Yes I know hence why I tailored it with my own experience.

Sounds like a flat cheap shitty SQL type database from the 90's/00's - look into Hadoop like clustered redundancy DBs.

I've always denied clients who say the word 'legacy' & pushed a better solution...when you fukk with lagacy it's always a shit show cos the team that made it are either dead or fukked off to a better job. Scrub legacy it's out of scope & I aint putting my team to learn something that's not transferable.

"Hello, TFC Forum Support hotline. Yes, the search feature should be working again now".

Ads have been there for members for years. Not sure why your suddenly seeing a message about them.
I have just realised I changed adblocker. I thought the website had now changed lol and added a subscription thing. The message was aggressive though; every time I opened a page. I paid the £1.50 anyway, I genuinely didn't know it was a thing.

Edit: I guess it means the adblocker is working. That is why I changed it. But I am happy to support the forum.
