Istanbul is safer than most of European capital cities. Metro is safe. There are some neighbourhoods that you should avoid but probably you will never go those districts. If you asked me i d suggest that It is best to stay at Kadikoy and take ferry to European side from there. That way you can enjoy istanbul more
