Ex-Spurs Player Gareth Bale

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

What the fuck is going on in here now :O ?

Have all of you totally lost any perspective here?
Gareth Bale has been back with Spurs for most of the season. He has been bang average against very weak teams in Europa League. I don't care what some speak here about his tracking back (that it was supposed to hold him back or whatever) - he was invisible and not influencing games in any way at all.

Now he plays 45 minutes (!!) against West Ham who is holding 2:0 advantage (so CLEARLY under Moyes their plan was to sit back) he has nice half, but even this very same half we effectively draw 1:1 and he had 1 assist. Some here make it out like he would have come in in 2:0 and scored 4 goals and helped us to 4:2 win. Ffs, he was involved in half that we drew against West Ham.

I can agree that he has more ability and class than Bergwijn and Moura and Lamela. But that is very low bar. It is very far from pulling trees from the ground. May I remind you that he has had chances previously in EPL as well - he came on for 45 min against Leicester and done absolutely nothing. He was even gifted start against Brighton and was utterly useless for 61 minutes. Now, he gives 1 assist and all of a sudden he is a worldbeater?

Take off the sentimental goggles for example - he has been here long and at least up to yesterday he has been very-very average. He will leave Spurs as soon as season ends. Either Mou is in charge or not. Up to now he has not played like he'd be worth 1/3 of the salaries. And I don't think we have been even considered to prolong his stay up to now - he is not even close to being worth it.

I honestly feel that there are MASSIVE double standards here -
- people are cluching the straws trying to explain that he is not bad, it is Mou fault. Yet I can't see same logic trying to explain that likes of Sanchez, Doherty and Dier are not bad, it is all managers fault and mistreatment
- people are pointing out his hit that deflected off-cross bar as an example of positive contribution; yet Bergwijn gets slammed when he hit Allisson twice while being 1-on-1 with him; make up your minds, all of the 3 situations resulted in same number of goals.

Jose out, Bale out - let's look into future, not focus on the past.
EPL has gone - we are out of top 4, right now I feel we should think how we can move on from here next season. Nothing to save anymore unfortunately.

Or I'll ask simple question - would any of you offer Bale another year for 10+ million eur salary based on what he has shown up to now with us?
That was genuinely one of the highest standards of football skill I have seen in one game by a player for a while. His long range passing, his dribbling, his weighted passing and his flick passes with the side of his foot. If his volley was a few inches lower it would of been a performance remembered for ages. It's just something to be excited about and give our season a bit of hope.

And if Bergwijn would have buried the 2 chances of getting one on one with Allisson, he'd be serenaded up to now.

But one is praised for not scoring and other bashed. I can't get it fully.

Also still - Bale is leaving soon, I'd still like to see someone arguing with that.

I'd like to apologise for what I said about him before
In the past 3 games he's shown that perhaps he is going to be crucial
He COMPLETLY changed the game yesterday and was excellent.
Has to start in the league now.
You dont need to apologise. He has been shit, not giving a shit. He was very good yesterday for 45 minutes. Nothing much has changed except mourinho has poked him enough to wake him.

Basically this. There are many things Mourinho has done wrong but his handling of Bale isn't one of them. The guy came here with his slippers on. Just a couple of weeks ago he gave a completely embarrassing performance against Brighton, he needed a wake-up slap. Yesterday he actually played with intent, he used all his powers and stood out as the best player on the pitch.

His poor fitness no doubt had a big part to play in his limp showings this season but I don't accept he was giving his very best until recently. That was a player who deserves more minutes, not the ghost we saw for the last few months. I hope he understands now that there is no point being afraid of injury, either you give everything and risk injury or you can sit in the stands. He gets paid either way. He is here to help Tottenham win matches, we are a football club with our own ambitions not a training camp for the Welsh FA.

He's by a large margin better than any of our other options for his position. He actually moves and finds space and then dictates play - pointing where he wants it. Its so simple, yet mind blowing that our other wingers are incapable of it. West Ham defenders routinely let him go so they didn't need to leave their deep line and he continually made chances by exploiting this. You can't really beat a deep line with fancy flicks and running with the ball head down (Dele/Lucas/Son). You can beat it by dragging them about then forcing the ball wide then putting it into dangerous positions. We were just unfortunate that a wasteful Kane missed good chances and a cut back chance or we'd all be singing from the same hymn sheet regarding Bales recent performances.

I'm under no illusion that with a different manager (i.e. Redknapp) we would have seen much more from Bale this season. In the last 3 appearances he has probably been one of our best players. The bar is low at the moment. But someone has to set it. Can't expect Son and Kane to do it alone for a full season. It's up to players like Bale, Dele & NDombele etc to step up and change games and show their class.

Bale has done that recently. Should be starting. For me the talent has been there since he joined. You need a run of games to get going and probably the media/agent criticism recently maybe gave him a bit of motivation to prove them wrong.

At the moment, I still wouldn't sign him for next season. But we should be using our best players to stay competitive.

He was poor for the most part this season, not denying that. But if he is going to perform at anything close the level he did yesterday he deserves a starting spot in this team.

There were people (myself included) wondering where that vision, technique and ability had gone that made him one of the best in the world. Obviously it's still all there, what have we got to lose by giving him a run of games?

The standard he is capable of producing is a million miles above the other options.

I just knew it. Any little thing he did and people were going to start pretending it was 2013

That's how low our season has become though mate.

We're so poor that anyone who puts in a decent performance is going to be praised and heralded.

And sadly, in the next month or so (maybe even the next few weeks), Bale is going to start a game and due to our set up, will likely have a quiet game and it'll be back to "Nope, no where near good enough", "not fit" etc. etc.

You're only as good as your last game nowadays.

Gareths pedigree is second to none . He's won practically ever award in the game, worked with and been coached by the very best. His class and quality stand out Just let him do what he does best. He doesn't need to be told what to do. What is JMs problem??

JM has won practically every award there is with much weaker teams than Bale did. And we are a weaker team than Real Madrid.

Last few weeks have been very hard... but Bale is showing his class in tough times and we should think about trying to keep him next year. If he has found his rhythm in England again, then he’d be a huge asset.
