Ex-Spurs Player Giovani Lo Celso

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

When you watch him play it is clear what he does and that he does create chances, the fact that he is not the last player to play a pass to the goal scorer does not mean his earlier passes weren't what actually created the chance.

Plus for most of last season when he played he was forced to play so deep because nobody else could move the ball through the midfield that he was not in position to be able to score/assist. Anytime he has been played in a role that he is close to Son and Kane those 3 have worked well together to create chances. He is by far the best player in terms of working with those two and at worst our second best passer on the team, a guy that can beat the press through dribbling or passing and someone who can make passes in tight areas, make passes that beat defenders and make passes to put teammates in dangerous areas.

We absolutely need him back, although Jose likely wastes him on the bench anyways so it likely doesn't matter.
In the Europa league and qualifying games where Jose played him more as a number 10 his numbers improved . He got into the box more.

As you say he had to play deeper but he was also similar to Eriksen in that he was the assister of the assister. Those players are really important to the team too.

The pre-assist or secondary assist it's known. It's why De Bruyne is such a great player because i saw some stats saying that he was the leading secondary assister.

He's already top of the assists and he's also top of the secondary assists. That's a top level player.

Eriksen at his peak wasn't far behind either but right now we're lacking in that area.

Any word on his injury or is he done for the season?

If he is done for the season I'm sure he won't play for the national team over the summer.

He's been a big loss, would probably be at least 2/3 points better off at this stage if he'd avoided injury. Contributed well to a lot of our wins this season when he was fit, if him and Reguilon can get back soon we might at least put up some challenge for top four. Would be great if he could get back for Burnley.

I doubt we'd start like this but it would be at least interesting thought experiment -

--------Son-----Kane--------
----------Alli/Lamela--------
---Lo Celso--Ndombele--
-----------Hjojberg---------
Regulion-Dier-Toby-Aurier
--------------Lloris------------

That would have 2 out and out goalscorers + 1 attacking midfielder purely supporting and combigning with them. Additionally 2 CM players who are good with the ball and can track back as well. Plus anchor in PEH.

I mean this team could control and keep the ball quite well..

But... despite being questionable if we would see that kind of lineup in action, it is also questionable when will Lo Celso be fit enough for that... Once more - he has been here already for 19 months but has been fit for like 2,5 of those (he was capable of finishing 90 minutes in EPL from 22.01-01.03.2020 & again 23.06-26.07.2020?!?). So very, very big issues and warning signals around that.

Been a bit lamela mk2 unfortunately. There was a good player there last season when fit but I'd be interested to know what percentage of our games he's been fit for since we signed him originally on loan.

We still don't know his position yet but he's a really good player for the team.

According to a website which compares what players are most similar :
Lo Celso is most similar to -

Most of these players are players that can play in both number 10 or Central midfield such as Nicolo Barella.

For me I feel like he is a blend of Kovacic and Mount at Chelsea. Got the tenacity and dribbling of Kovacic with the final 3rd ability of Mount.

He's not shown much yet but he has the potential too and when he gets back he'll make us better.

He can pass the ball forward with some quality and is not a wimp, that immediately elevates him miles above Winks and Sissoko. We had Lucas playing in the number 10 position against City, the ball bouncing off him from all angles so often that he was hooked at half time.

Gio has a lot to prove but he has quality. That is what the team needs more than anything else. The more quality on the pitch, the more likely you win the game.

Everyone talking about him like he's some pass master...but he's really not.

Good in tight spaces and runs with the ball well from deep, but I haven't seen anything to suggest he's got the creativity and vision of a Christian Eriksen.

Oh and he's so one-footed it's almost painful to watch.

Nobody said he was as good as Eriksen. Just based on his atrocious fitness record he is unlikely to ever make as big a contribution, Eriksen barely missed a game in 7 years.

But he’s still miles better than the alternatives in our squad. If we had been able to use Gio instead of Winks we would probably still be in the FA Cup.

Granted, Winks was sloppy as hell in ET against Everton. But... I don't really see Gio as an alternative?

Ridiculously, the player who most resembles Gio is Lamela. Both are very left-sided hardworking players who move the ball well up the pitch. Neither is particularly inventive or capable of controlling the tempo of a game (not to mention their respective injury records).

I'd say Wink is meant to be that tempo controlling player.

It's interesting how some players go through there careers with very few injuries i.e. Eriksen (mentioned above) whereas Lo Celso just seems like the new Lamela where he'll play a few games then won't see him for a while and then comes back.

I think Lo Celso has got a lot of potential and has looked good in the games he's played. I like that he has abit of bite about him, again similar to Lamela.

Are you sure you have ever seen GLC play?

The only similarities GLC and Lamela have are injuries, Argentinian’s and c@nts.

On the ball they are absolutely different. GLC almost always makes the right choice, is quick in making decisions, accurate with passes, able to beat defenders with passes and dribbling.

Almost the exact opposite of Lamela.
