Legend Glenn Hoddle

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

My favourite was the one against Oxford? Can't be a.. bothered to Google it but think it was in his last game before the '87 cup final and he collected the balloon the edge of their area, dummied a couple of their players and went round the keeper.
Still the best for scoring the most spectacular goals. Quite a few players score a humdinger once or twice in their careers - Glenn did it consistently over several seasons.
I remember that goal well.

Can't recall the balloon though...

That was my first ever Spurs kit. Still one of our best ever kits IMO

What a player. Along with Gascoigne, Hoddle is IMHO, the greatest natural talent (that made it to pro level) ever produced in England.

My first kit as well, brought the retro version of it a few years ago too 😀
Feel a bit cheated if I’m honest I started supporting us properly in 88 the year after Hoddle left 😡

Was it the Mexico world cup.

2 indifferent performances by England
Robson and Wilkins injured or banned.

Hoddle comes in and Lineker scores a hat trick ?

Memory a bit hazy on that

v Poland?

That was the Lineker hatrick game anyway.

I still can’t decide which one is better. One day I think Utd then another I think the Forest one.

We should really do a poll…
His passing and class on the ball outweighs those ridiculous goals. Only player that comes close is KDB and Hoddles vision, touch and ability 100% is better than that ginger cunt (who is a great athlete and stellar player tbf)

Bryan Robson, like Gerrard was an upmarket Sunday league player - wouldn’t last a week under managers like Guardiola in the modern game. Exceptional winners but uncoachable. Hoddle would revel in the modern game

Do not agree on your evaluation on Robson and Gerrard both amazing players in their own right but with robson, he should have been the box to box midfielder with a more defensive one and Hoddle as the 10. Instead we were stuck with 442 managers who tried to pigeon hole Hoddle into a ridged system when it didn’t suit him. You build your team around your best players not your favourite system

Fav Hod goals seen live (not in order):
Forest volley
Man U volley
Oxford dribble
Wimbledon FA cup qtr final freekick screamer
Anfield 30yd screamer
Bolton FA cup 3rd round chip from near corner flag (not filmed, a shame as probably his best ever)
Numerous free kicks, plus many more.
Greatest player at Spurs in my supporting years. Shamefully wasted by England.

Yes remember that goal like it was yesterday as all my mates said there wasn't going to be any more goals in the game and they went to queue up for either semi or final tickets.
I said I would catch them up as just in case something happens, they all said nothing will happen now.
They all missed it 🤣🤣

That's the one.

We lost to Portugal 1 -0 and drew with Morocco in the first 2 games.

Robson dislocated his shoulder, maybe in a warm up game pre world cup and Wilkins got sent off v Morocco.

"Robson entered the tournament nursing a shoulder injury however, and after playing eighty minutes in the 1-0 group stage defeat to Portugal he lasted only forty-one in the second match against Morocco in Monterrey."

"Critics suggested that Bobby Robson’s team benefited from the tactical changes his absence allowed, arguing that setting a team up to protect its wounded leader had inhibited its attacking potential. Having not scored against Portugal or Morocco, England minus Robson scored seven goals in the next three games."

I thought it was generally Robson & Wilkins that kept Hoddle on the bench for much of his int. career, but Hoddle started all 3 group games tho........

Hodge & Reid were the incoming MFs.
