Agreed. I think Vic is alright, there are weaknesses to his game but significant strengths too. Could cut down on the screaming at his own players, thought the berating of young Bergvall really sucked, frankly.

I do think we missed a trick not signing Raya when we had a chance. I remember seeing us lose at home to Brentford in May 2023 - quite against the run of play - and thought then he was an outstanding 'keeper.

Vicario is the least of our problems. Could do better but he is good enough.

Agree! And there lies the problem for me so far this season. Far too many of our first choice starting 11 are performing below average or just average! I'll include Ange in that as well. How many of our current starting 11 on current form would get into the Liverpool, City, Woolwich, Chelsea starting 11? imo, Micky VDV and maybe Porro? that's it! The likes of Vicario, Johnson, Maddison, Solanke, Son, Bissouma, Romero, Undogie, Sarr, even Kulu would all be bench warmers elsewhere and Ange would never get the chance to manage at these clubs.
So with that in mind I believe we should just accept we are currently a bang average side who entertain everyone with our Harlem Globtrotter style of play (without the results) and hope for a run in all cup comps and maybe, just maybe a final. Time and time again, myself included, we start to believe, only to become deflated by average performances and poor results. If and until mega, mega on field investment is made we will continue to be nearly men.

Raya isn't an "outstanding" keeper. Not dis-similar to Vic; he's got his own creases and just happens to benefit from a comparatively conservative (Stoke deluxe) Arse back 6 sat in front of him.


FWIW Arse only ended up paying 27m + 3m loan fee for him at the very end of the window because Brentford shit themselves at the thought of losing him for free (when us and Man U had already told them to get fucked with their valuation).
