Player Guglielmo Vicario

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Good news that Ange included Forster in EL squad, with Austin available as a back up.

Question is how long is Vicario out for - but surgery suggests a minimum of 2 months out and maybe 3 or even 4 months out to me.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I didn't think you had surgery on a broken ankle?? Doesn't sound like a standard break to me??

Googled it and says you might need surgery if it's a serious break or if the bone is misaligned.
Doesn't sound good doubt we will see him much before next season

Yeah gutted for Vic, fantastic game from him and incredible he finished it. Looked so assured as well.

But the comments on Forster are harsh I think. All seem to have forgotten that he helped keep the score in Galatasaray down in single digits. Pretty sure he came out of his box twice to successfully stop attacks / chances. He's a solid professional who will always give his best.
Don't think it's the disaster it's being painted as, not optimal, but we just have to get on with it and give him our support.

Some of the coming games you'd think opposition would look to foul the GK on corners etc, but they can't do that with the big man there, he'll bury them. Perhaps nullifying those threats with Forster might help us accumulate more points...

Fulham, Bournemouth, Chavs, Southampton, WOLVES, FOREST, they would have loved to rough up Vic...probably dippers as well. At least 3 of those could be low blocks so the fine margins not conceding from a foul at a corner (fouls never given to us) would be very important.

This is all very true and a good post, within this run of games we do play teams who will suit Forster more than if we were about to play City, Woolwich, Liverpool all in a row.

Still trying to get my head around the decision to give Austin a contract and then proceed to play Forster over him and even hamper the el squad by including FF.
No one here is likely to have much of an idea as to how good he is, but a 4/5 year contract at 25 would imply that in the summer he was rated enough by the club.
Clubs need No 3 goalies and it ain't easy to find good ones, especially if you add the HG thing. You need dudes who are good enough to make regular PL contributors push themselves at training...their fellow keeps but also outfield players during shooting practice for instance. Those guys also need the right character to fit in well within the squad and they gotta find it in them to stay motivated and dedicated knowing they won't get to see first team action at Spurs...when they could start regularly in the Champo/League One, albeit on lower wages. The best 3rd keeps I got to know were proper pros in the way they approached their gig, they did everything in terms of fitness, nutrition etc like the guys who regularly start. They were also proper club guys, real glu type characters...great to keep the stars in check but also to mentor the young kids coming through. They're kinda like journeymen in boxing...ain't ever gonna be the main event, but it ain't cause the skills aren't there, and you still play a big role in the game.

Maybe Austin is that type. The club giving him an extension doesn't necessarily mean they see him as a future Vic or Frase, might just be that he's a top No 3 and they know they'd struggle to find a better one.

Alfie and Brandon are also being kept around because they are club trained, which is something that we need to be able to field a full European squad.

We're currently low on club trained first teamers since Skipp requested a move in the summer. Otherwise one of them would probably have been sent out on loan or sold in the summer.

The frequent manager turnover led to a lot of player turnover and we let a lot of club trained guys go in the process. So we are kinda screwed in that regard in the short term. But should be better off in the long term when guys like Bergvall, Vuskovic and Yang can get classed as it.

Yup, understand that but have learned a lot through this process, my money says minimum of eight, but probably nearer to ten weeks
I'm with you, Sir.

Had a lot of issues with my ankles in my playing days and on the couple occasions it went real pear-shaped, you knew right off the bat you were out for 2 or 3 months minimum...though the last time I lied to my coach and said it wasn't that bad at all, came back after two weeks and played through mad pain cause I was that desperate to be out there.

Obviously we need to know more about Vic's injury and it depends how his body copes with the effects of surgery, plus yeah he's got top doctors looking after him etc, but I still think it'll be 8 weeks minimum. If he's really got some Venom blood in him, heck he could be back out there within 6 but I'd be stunned if that happened.

I thought I saw Ange gesturing Vicario to come off when he was down for treatment. Honestly I think it's stupid of him, and irresponsible in a longer run perspective, to carry on playing if he knew his ankle has some issue. Who knows he could have worsen it for playing a further 30 minutes and now by being too gung ho, he's gonna miss a huge chunk of the season.

How does the recruitment team go into a season with no fucking back up keeper.

The same way they have to leave Foyth out the CL squad, or let Aurier go on a free or Doherty sold to Ath Madrid because we screwed up the squad numbers.

Our squad administration is atrocious. I swear you never hear of another club that has these same issues. There is always such a lack of planning and has been for years.
