Player Guglielmo Vicario

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Ultimately it would be disingenuous of the club to throw it's arms up and cry about bad luck. We all knew in the summer that we were one injury in this position away from being in serious trouble.. We knew the back up wasn't of the level needed for the level we want to be. It's unacceptable from those involved in recruitment to purposefully hang the manager and rest of the squad out to dry.

I thought I saw Ange gesturing Vicario to come off when he was down for treatment. Honestly I think it's stupid of him, and irresponsible in a longer run perspective, to carry on playing if he knew his ankle has some issue. Who knows he could have worsen it for playing a further 30 minutes and now by being too gung ho, he's gonna miss a huge chunk of the season.
Tis merely a flesh wound…

Correct me if I'm wrong but I didn't think you had surgery on a broken ankle?? Doesn't sound like a standard break to me??

Googled it and says you might need surgery if it's a serious break or if the bone is misaligned.
Doesn't sound good doubt we will see him much before next season

Treatments for a broken ankle
You'll usually have an X-ray to check if your ankle is broken and see how bad the break is.
If you have a very minor break, you may not need any treatment.
For a more serious break, you may need:
  • a special boot to help support your ankle
  • a plaster cast to hold your ankle in place while it heals
  • the bones to be moved back into place by a doctor (they'll give you an injection to numb your ankle)
  • surgery to fix the broken bones
You'll usually have follow-up appointments to check your ankle is healing properly.

A broken ankle usually takes 6 to 8 weeks to heal, but it can take longer.

Have we got a back up keeper other than Forster?

Got to hand it to him. When I broke my ankle, I was immobile for two months and needed physiotherapy to learn how to walk again. I guess it depends on which bones you break as to whether the leg is able to weight-bear or not.

I wish Vicario all the best for his recovery and hope he is able to find the silver linings in this adverse situation.

My son (aged 8 at the time) fractured his ankle playing football last year (I was coaching as it happens!) and he was back in match action in 6 weeks.

But his was an avulsion fracture, which they pretty much treat as a bad sprain. So depends on the type of fracture - Vic’s is probably a more serious one given the surgery.

Gutted for him and the team.
I assumed in the summer with the new 5 year contract for Austin that he would be our back up and not Forster - obviously not considering how things have gone.
Wonder if they have to rotate now for Europa League - be interesting to see who plays Thursday now.

Tore my ankle ligaments, I was a goalie, they strapped my ankle at half time and I carried on.

Was on a crutch and played again after 6 weeks. Which was a mistake and set me back a couple of weeks.

Took a good couple of months to recover in all

WTF .

I’ve only just heard this ….
just what exactly did those archeologists find when they did the statutory dig prior to being paid-off ; and the pile-drivers moving in and the slab being laid ?

This could hurt us .

Only just saw this. Are we sure it happened during the match? Nobody is playing through a displaced ankle fracture. Hairline fracture maybe but that wouldn’t require surgery.

What keepers are out of contract who we could get short term?

Don't see the point of a short term option (*)... Just go out and buy a new #2 like we should have done in the summer..... Someone as good as possible......... Tell them the #1 shirt is there to be earned.

Let them & Vic fight it out.

(*The whole "out of contract" factor doesn't mean we can play them before January anyway.)
