Player Guglielmo Vicario

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I'm going to say a few things in support of Vicario. I don't like the way he was booed during the match - that's something that should be reserved for people like Sol Campbell or players who have disgraced the club in some way. I'm in complete agreement with Thomas Frank on this.

Vicario has put in some good performances in recent matches and has often been the only player in the team who turned up (the Monaco match springs to mind). It was a ridiculous mistake of Heurelho Gomes proportions but I think Vicario still has a bit of credit in the bank. We should probably be looking for a replacement in the summer but for now he's what we've got and we need to get behind him.
In January, we should try and get a better backup for Vicario than Kinsky.
I don't think booing players does anything to improve their performance or help the team win. But there's no way he wasn't going to be booed on that play. Where it crossed a line was that it continued on as long as it did. Horrible play, but he's also made any number of really good saves. To your point, he should have some credit built up with the fans.

He fucked up but fans booing him everytime he touched the ball, wtf

This fanbase is fucking
The fans are paying their hard earned money. They are entitled to voice their opinion.

Let’s not forget this is the same guy who’s put in 2 decent performances all season (also almost cost us a cup) and called the fans out a few weeks back.

He deserved that boo’s! Was awful play and cost us points and maybe the managers job

He’s an absolute shithouse of a keeper

Good shot stopper but jumpy, erratic and scared of physical contact and can’t kick a ball. Absolute liability, no way he starts vs Newcastle. Austin for me

This is pretty silly if I'm honest, how do you expect him to gain any confidence if you're booing him?

I think fans are entitled to show displeasure and I understand the frustration but singling out a player is wrong, if you want to boo then boo the whole team.

2 decent performances is absolute bollocks as well btw

The goal itself was largely his fault but why the fuck didn't anyone of our defenders get on the line, basic stuff.

His constant fuck up body language in blaming everyone else except himself whenever we concede will never go down well with teammates and fans. If Frank wanna defend him, ask him show up better with humility first.

Never thought I would dislike a goalkeeper as much as him, and he's playing for us.

She'd do a better job.

I’ve steadfastly backed him. Just smash it into row Z, I’m not sure what he was even attempting to do with his clearance. If you’re keeping it in play then a high ball down the line. His lack of accountability was embarrassing, I still back him and he’s saved us points on numerous occasions, we don’t win the EL without him Micky saving his gabagool

He might not be good enough, but he's not the worse part of this team, and he's actually had some phenomenal performances this season. If we were at the top, then we would definitely need to upgrade but we're no way near it so he's rhe least of our (many) problems.

As for the mistake, it was a bad one, but he mishit a fucking ball. Christ, I've had a surgeon mistime a sodding cut, imagine how they might perform next time they're in theatre if they had 1000s of people booing them. The booing comes from a wider malaise, and that malaise is largely understandable however that doesn't mean it's productive because it's absolutely not. Booing a player is never going to help them or the team, it's just not. And at least he came on tv and said they had every right to boo - people expecting a greater apology here are missing the point, he could have talked about how much rhe booing hurt or how it didn't help but he took it on the chin. He didn't need to do that.

I’m with those saying don’t boo your own players, it actually doesn’t help in the long run.

The problem with Vic is that for every egregious error he makes he seems to shout at someone for it. Even yesterday - I’ve no idea who but he’s berating someone when the goal goes in, that’s not on. Take responsibility in the moment, not just after you get boo’d by the fans.

His conduct in the Leicester game with Bergvall last season really turned me off him as a personality. Breaking down a young naive kid with the sort of energy he would never give to Romero (who made plenty of errors in the opening few weeks) was not on.

Great shot-stopper generally, but poor on crosses, average at best with his feet and not a great character on the pitch.

He made a horrible mistake. But he’s dug us out of a lot of holes in his time here.

And at least he shows a bit of passion and anger, misdirected sometimes, which is something sorely lacking in our squad.

He’s not top class and never will be, but he’s far from the major problem right now.
