Ex-Spurs Player Harry Kane

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I posted several times that Kane should not start.

I got shot down for this after we knocked City out:

I can see it already.....the team battles it’s way to the final after two immense games with Ajax, wins all it’s remaining PL fixtures and finds flow and momentum.

Then it’s dismantled so a 40% fit Kane, with zero match fitness, can start in the most important game in the club’s history.
And some of you will actually celebrate that.

While we didn’t win all our PL games, we did find some cohesion and momentum, especially in the CL semis, and achieved top 4.
Some people, along with our manager, choose sentiment over logic and facts.

We prove we are not the Harry Kane team when he’s injured, but the second he can walk, we act like the Harry Kane team.
It happens every year, and no one learns from it.

The CL final is not Kane’s rehabilitation time I’m afraid.

Reality is Kane ,even when fully fit,has been pretty average all season.

Not the only one by any means.

Poch really worries me. He doesn't seem to acknowledge when things are going badly.

I would love to know what the rest of the team felt when a rusty returning from injury Kane was preferred to an in form Moura.

Great point, I think kane starting would sent ripples of discontent throughout the dressing. He came back in the league and killed our momentum. Came back last night and killed our attacking play. Should just played the team that player the second half in ajax. Best we played all season. Target man and runners everywhere, and direct. We spent most game passing back to hugo again

Hard to criticise him too much for me given his record. I think like Dele he hasnt been properly fit approaching 18 months now and neither have been given proper recovery time.

Of course kane is going to say he's ready. But you cod tell within 5 minutes he was way off the pace. No movement, second to everything, no drive. The worst thing is that because he was so static, son was having to make fruitless runs all night to create space for himself. And when the ball did get crossed in his runs were terrible.

I hope that he gets a few weeks of proper rest and comes back to his best. But all season he has been killing our momentum. Definitely on pochettino to start him last night. But even more so to play him for the entire game.

What the fuck is going on here? A not match fit Kane comes back and can't get anything going in a game where almost everyone going forward does fuck all and now he is not a world class striker and he has not even had a good season? What the fuck are you lot on?

We should be thankful for every day that we have this bloke because he is Spurs and he IS one of the best strikers in world football, no doubt. Jesus its embarrassing the revisionism that goes on here when people start moaning.

That is just the point though mate. I am saying he is the best cf in world football when fit. I didnt hate giving him 45 minutes. But the experiment failed and he should have been subbed. Sadly he has not recovered fully from the numerous injuries he has suffered. Hopefully he comes back fully fit for the new season.

Kane didn't do much because the best defender in world football was glued too him the entire game. Kane's role was to draw the CBs out and make room for Son and Alli.

We saw 3 or 4 balls over the top which got to Son and Alli in good positions and they fluffed their chances.

In hindsight Llorente would've been better in that role.. to go shoulder to shoulder with VVD and make space for Son and Moura (and Dele making his signature dangerous runs into the box unhindered)

Klopp played an unfit Firmino and had to take him off, nobody has said a word about it because they won, had they lost he would be getting it in the neck this morning...if we had won, starting Kane wouldn't have got a mention.

Kane starting was the most selfish thing I've ever seen at this club. He's the most valuable player at the club so we basically massaged his ego instead of picking the best possible team.

There was a story the other day where Pepe pulled Ancelotti aside right before the 2014 Final & said he should go with Varane instead since he wasn't fit. Said he was thinking about what's best for the team rather than his own personal glory.

Also he got dominated by Matip. He was barely involved in duels with van Dijk. Don't try and downplay his shitness.

This isn't the first time Kane has been rushed back into the side to kill our momentum either. Fitting it happens in the biggest game of the club's history.

We've been shit for MONTHS. Genuinely shit. To the point where we've lost to the likes of West Ham at home.

And we didn't even have Kane.

If we signed another top class striker we would have the option of dropping Harry back a bit into a Sheringham type of role, or like how Firminho plays

I love him but the whole club are mentally over reliant on him. He really needs to get his ankles right, needs to adapt his game a bit so he doesn't put himself in situations where he injures himself. And I'm thinking once he sorts himself out long term he could drop back a bit in some games where he will find more space and influence the game in another way

We should be looking at Jovic at Frankfurt. Very intelligent striker and he would do well in English football

Harry, Son, Jovic. Plenty of options and variations available with those 3

Yeah I think Harry had to be really honest. He has a massive influence at the club and I know it would have been hard to say he wasn't ready to start but for the sake of the team he should have stepped aside.

It was always going to a be no win situation if the result ended the same.

Kane starts and we lose - shouldn't have started, not fit enough, ruined the team, so and so shouldnt have been dropped.

Kane on the bench and we lose - why didn't we start Kane? If he's fit enough for the bench, hes fit enough to start. Best striker in the world and we he can't play in our biggest game in history?

Shit happens. No one performed to the level needed to take us to the trophy. That includes Dele, Eriksen and Son who had NO excuses.

He needs a rest pure and simple. What's worrying is hes now a marketing tool before being actually fit to play games. It killed our league form and cost us last night in my opinion. Llorente would of caused loads more problems and freed Ali son moura like ajax away.

The mistake was not in starting Kane.

The mistake was keeping him on.

Firmino was not at the pace so Klopp hooked him relatively early in the second half for their semi final hero Origi.

The sub should have been Lucas for Kane. If Kane is not at it he clogs up the space for others. That happened last night sadly.

Several people have said words about it. The fact that Firmino from start failed does not change the fact that so did Kane from start. And personally I do not have a clue about how Firmino usually performs returning from injuries, but I do know that Kane ALWAYS takes time to get going, and that the team ALWAYS struggle when he's returning. Some say it was a risky move. I say it wasn't. It would be a risky move if it was probable that it would be succesful but with a chance for not working out. This choice had a very low likelihood of success. In yerms of our chances to win the final, choosing Kane was downright stupid.
