Ex-Spurs Player Harry Kane

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I had apprehensions about starting Kane last night before the game and having seen how it turned out I really wish we had started with Moura.

Kane pretty much played into pool’s hands. His attempts to hold up the ball with his back against VVD was futile, it would have been a difficult task even if he was match fit. He barely did anything in the first half.

I reckon Moura would have been the more difficult player for VVD and pool to handle, for VVD defending Kane’s hold up play would have been a lot easier to defend than speedy Moura trying to run in behind you.

Was it right to start Kane? In my opinion No.

The guy hadn’t played a game in anger in nearly two months, and no matter how fit you are, you just don’t go straight into a game match sharp, and especially not a game of this magnitude.

Do I get why Pochettino played him? Yes, big games call for big players, and Kane is our biggest player.

But if history has taught us anything, it is this, when Kane comes back from a long absence the rest of the team mentally drop off the pace, they hand the baton over to Kane, it nearly wrecked our top 4 challenge and it happened again after his latest comeback last night.

Are we better without Kane? No, a fit and “match sharp” Kane is as good as there is anywhere in football, but he hasn’t been anywhere near match sharp the entire 2nd half of the season, never mind last night after 56 days on the sidelines....

We have proven, on several occasions we are not the “Harry Kane team” but we somehow still want to be the “Harry Kane team” even when we should resist the temptation......

Did playing him last night lose us the game? Hard to say for definite, we will never know for sure, but we do know two things for sure:

Playing him couldn’t win us the game.
&
If we could have a do over and play the game again, he definitely wouldn’t start the game.

Yeah, but what if we had started Moura and got the same result...it would have been all "Should have started Kane"

Kane is one of the main reasons we got to this level. To not play him in the biggest game of his career would have been a farce.

Lucas has played his part but to leave Kane or Sonny out for him would have been gut wrenching and the wrong call. Both deserved their starting place and I value the manager for choosing what's right in a game that loyalty seems a dying thing.

If Kane doesn't start, do people genuinely think he wouldn't feel a little sour and his mind possibly wander elsewhere? He's our talisman, he's the heartbeat of the team and he more than warranted a risk being taken with him. He's Spurs, he deserved

It was always going to a be no win situation if the result ended the same.

Kane starts and we lose - shouldn't have started, not fit enough, ruined the team, so and so shouldnt have been dropped.

Kane on the bench and we lose - why didn't we start Kane? If he's fit enough for the bench, hes fit enough to start. Best striker in the world and we he can't play in our biggest game in history?

Shit happens. No one performed to the level needed to take us to the trophy. That includes Dele, Eriksen and Son who had NO excuses.

The entire front four was poor, but that doesn’t excuse Kane or Poch.
It’s not a no win situation at all...

He should have been hauled at half time or better yet brought on at 60.
We made a real mess of it up top, and despite being the better team, once more the “fab four” did fuck all.

Hindsight is 20/20 but the wrong decision was made imo.

Lucas should have started. But it's completely understandable why the decision was made.

Same with Winksy.
Difference was that Winks had a good game and was subbed off, and Kane was shite, but got 95 minutes.

There was no hindsight from those who said Kane shouldnt start before the game....he hadn’t kicked a competitive ball in two months.
Poch fucked up big time.

He didn’t touch the ball or make a single run and was out of the game.
We lost, he did nothing so clearly it was the wrong call and some people said it before hand that this would happen.

I find it laughable the lengths people will go to before they will say Poch fucked up.

Right call my arse
He was pocked by that guy that you say he’s not that good. What’s his name? Virgil? Virgil van dijk?

This. Like I said in the match thread, it’s a no win situation, unless you win the game. Kane starts and we lose, so it’s easy to say “he shouldn’t have started.” If Lucas starts and we lose people say “how can you not start Kane?!” Of course, do either of those things, win the CL, it’s “he’s magic you know!”

What if Trippier starts and we win?
Do we still need a new RB?

You can’t just say it wasn’t the wrong decision because IF we won it would have been ok.
