Ex-Spurs Player Harry Kane

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

A FAR more measure statement....

Kane (75m) <> Martinez (70m) seemed to be the Plan A in terms of replacement..... About as good as we could have hoped for given a) the 'shelf' that is open to us and b) the pricetags; without taking a punt on a less proven player (Vhalovic, Isak).....

What's your take on that?
Lautaro..Why would he join a non CL team? I couldn't see that deal going ahead so your second part about taking a punt on a less proven player was the far likelier option. Which is what worries me because our track record over the last 4 years with that type of signing doesn't bode well.

I think they wanted Martinez and Vhalovic for the Kane money. And stalled so much that Inter sold Lukaku in the interim and then told us to fuck off.

Elephant in the room: That's WAY more money than City were offering..... Particularly as early in the window as when Chavs stepped in and bought Lukaku (which rightfully illustrated that City's bid for Kane was shite).

As credible as any press stuff is..... That deal was being entertained by all parties.

It was even reported as a done deal in some quarters, but scuppered by Inter back-peddling once they'd managed to sell Lukaku.

Would Kane <> Vlahovic have satisfied you?

Vlahovic would have no goals for us if we'd signed him. He relies on good service, you need to get crosses in to the box and play it in to his feet in the box, similar to Kane. He'd be more lively and look less mopey, but fans would already be getting on his back for not scoring.

Most of his goals are poachers goals. He works hard and his hold up play is solid, but he's not going to score solo worldies where he just runs at defenders.

75m couldn't even get us Martinez..... It would have (potentially) been a punt on a young Vhalovic (whom Atleti failed to prize away for 70m euro) or a similarly Isak (alleged 90m euro release clause); neither of whom have much more than 1 good season under their belt at the top level.
There's a big problem with the logic you keep using.

If City offered 75m + 25m for Kane then yes that is quite low.
But you're thinking about things in isolation.

If Spurs knew they were aiming to get in some quality players to get back into the top 4, then challenge for more the following season etc then yes that's too low a fee for a player of Kane's calibre considering the fees other players went for. It's not enough to buy an established striker who is guaranteed better or on par with Kane.

HOWEVER

That wasn't the case at all. Spurs have NO intent of even challenging for the top 4. We bought for the future, young boys like Gil and Sarr. We integrated Skipp who the club see as the future. We have written off challenging for anything serious.

So what use is having Kane?! He'll be long gone and past it by the time we' ve assembled a serious side and our young investments reach a suitable level.
Reeks of holding onto a star for the sake of having a star to justify extortionate prices.

The club knew they wouldn't surround Kane with what he needed so they should have just sold him and committed to the buying youth approach.

THE CLUB SAW THE 25+75 OFFER KNOWING THAT THEY HAD NO INTENT TO COMPETE AND THAT KANE'S VALUE WOULD ONLY DROP AT HIS AGE.

So it's not even about having hindsight.

My logic is fine and pretty straight forward....

Primarily the point is: 75m doesn't buy much in today's market, striker-wise.

My assumption from there... Given City's shit offer; once we saw the few guys we had on our radar become unlikley for various reasons(***) the club probably thought "Ok, let's get another year out of Kane and see how the dice land next summer".

(***Martinez - Inter pulled the plug / Vlahovic - Florentina seemingly lost interest in selling as Atletico had their attempts knocked back too / Isak - 90m release clause inserted... Allegedly.)

No one in the world we can afford is. Said it in the summer we are not buy a replacement for Kanes goals. We rebuild the front three and share. Chelsea won the ECL and got top four with their top scorer being a penalty taking midfield player with a whopping 8 goals. Vlahovic would have merely been part of that solution

Need a new coach who can get the best out of individuals and agreed, more goals throughout the side. Could do with a new CF, #10 and right sided winger when Kane leaves.

And not 15-20 punts either, we need to spend serious money, probably about 200m in a window. More if we can get some decent sales done.

Conveniently ignoring the main content of my post.

75 is better than 0.

Keeping Kane for another season is pointless if like Levy you KNOW you're not going to invest what's needed to break top 4.

Tourists will be excited to see the famous Harry Kane at the Tottenham Stadium though ££££££££

Wouldn't be too upset if Nuno dropped him for the Burnley cup tie and if it goes well, keep him on the Bench for United. Chances are Nuno is sacked by Christmas anyway, so if I were him I'd roll the dice.

Gallardo or Potter for me at this point. Both risks but so is getting out of bed.

Not ignored.... Just fairly convoluted to negotiate all the ifs, maybes and supposition.

.......Zero? You jest.

It's wasn't pointless..... Pointless would be keeping him if you've no intention of playing him.

Potter has said he wants a top 4 team at least.....

Perhaps the other bloke is more realistic.

Tell Potter we will give him 200m spending in his first summer net, and a reasonable amount of control over transfers. Bet he changes his mind. Also throw a huge wage at him in order to get him in to the club.

This is how big clubs operate and bring in managers who aren't sold. We need to prove to any incoming manager than we are going to fix the rot at the club and give them the freedom to do so. The way we operate now is how we end up with a manager like Nuno who nobody wants, so we don't have to give him any promises or pay him very much.

I must say and I won't name the posters but much respect to those who were previously very much pro-Kane but are now much more circumspect.

This should only ever have been about THFC.

The discussion now is much more on the right channel.

I couldn't begin to say how staunch his stance is..... He seems like a pretty straight foward and forthright bloke though.

It's not like a top 4 job isn't gonna come with big wages and a decent TRF budget anyway....

don't think he will move, his form is so bad that his value as dropped like a stone, Levy won't sell for less than city offered in the summer, and city won't offer as much as they did
So we continue to pay him a fortune to do bugger all and affect the rest of the team?
Bad idea. Just get a decent price and move on. This chapter should be closed asap.
