Yeah I don't think anyone can argue we handled it well. I have some sympathy due to the way City went about negotiations (to my mind it's 100% clear they thought Kane's antics would force us to sell for cheaper) but we needed to secure another CF regardless.

Who that CF could be, I don't know. But we just hired a fancy new DoF so it shouldn't have been an impossibility. We needed an insurance option with Kane wanting out and we didn't get it, and now we're reliant on him as he stinks the place out.

Whereas City, who we supposedly stuck it to, are looking absolutely fine and can bide their time if they still are interested. Fantastic.

In other words, we had no long term plans.

A scouting system today not only finds players here and now. It also keeps taps on them for years or even decades, and very often has informal contact to agents, reps and even parents.

Spurs has no scouting "system" in that regard. We need a forward. Only then do we start to look for a new one. We sack a manager. Only then do we start planning forward (Jose the exception, they probably sacked Poch because Jose was available at all).

Spurs have no football "systems" let alone scouting ones. It's 20 years of making things up as they go along.

Yeah the lack of a consistent vision is a huge issue. Technically a DoF should solve that, but if he's not the right fit then it's only going to give us a consistent vision that doesn't fit the club. But to be perfectly honest the scouting/data analysis people at this club could do with being entirely replaced. Awful record.
 
City were right that they were in a strong position.

They were the only club in for him and he wanted them. All we could do was take as much as we could get them up to but we put our fingers in our ears and acted like we had the power.

I have visions of Daniel Greedy in a support group for victims of financial crime at the moment, crying like a baby at how he got completely ripped off.

We're gonna struggle to sell Kane at all now. No way are City coming back for him, they'll wait for Haaland. Probably the only ones willing to spend any money would be United and Newcastle and I doubt he'd want either of those shit shows.

City won't get Haaland. He's a Raiola player and Raiola and Guardiola hate each other. He's probably going to Madrid to join their new Galactico wave alongside Mbappe. Maybe United even if they get Conte and sort their season out.

So they still do need a CF, and the market isn't great for that. I expect them to come back in for him at some point but for a severely cut fee, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if he starts banging them in again the second he arrives there.

At the time it was the right call. Looks wrong now.

If it's simply a lack of desire on Kane'spart then you would expect him to be significantly better when he plays for the national team. In truth he is arguably worse because he has better players around him, so if it's a decline then not sure how this ends.

Ultimately we are losing out but I maintain our BIGGEST mistake was not buying a 2nd striker.

Not buying a second striker has been the biggest mistake for about 5 seasons

You do wonder if he's in cahoots with them regarding the lack of goals. But there have been a good few chances he's had where he was clearly trying to score but it was saved.

Nah I just think his heads gone and he isn't enjoying football full stop. I honestly think he was sure he'd get the move this season but instead he's got another season with us, this time playing conference league football and under a PE teacher of a manager. Still wants to score goals but the effort and drive isn't there at all now. Doesn't help how terrible we are at creating chances for our forwards, mind.

Yep it's completely fcuked us up.

We had Lllorente, who had his moments but failing to buy (not just sign on loan) a striker to realistically push Kane is unforgivable.

And to those who say who would have come to sit on the bench, his name was probably Payer Menough.

It's just symptomatic of a number of decisions, which have been unfortunate at best and plain useless at worst.

We are reaping the results and are quite fortunate that the PL has some teams who are dross.

Not saying we are poor but we are so wishy washy that without points on the board you could be excused for being quite fearful as fans.

And ultimately without a goalscorer that's always a risk.

Llorente was excellent in the air. We created a lot of opportunities and/or scored crucial goals as a direct result of his aerial ability and flick on headers. His hold up play actually wasn't all that bad either.

He was actually a perfect striker to have play alongside pacey wingers like Son, Moura and also Dele who made those runs behind/in the box.

He was someone that helped get the most out of our attackers, despite not actually getting many goal contributions himself

The way The likes of Dortmund, Atletico & Napoli are able to consistently replace players means you are probably right.
 
If we had another striker i would definitely be leaving him out. He's not right either mentally or physically.

But of course we don't so we'll carry on as we are. Small-time and Spursy in the extreme.
 
We could have financed Daka, Vlahovic, a young beast CM or CB with Kane's probable £120M plus add ons last summer...

Still needs to be dropped regardless. Offering nothing on or off the ball, and we don't play to whatever strengths he may still be able to show. Honestly I'm pro going 3-5-2 or something similar with Son/Lucas up top, Ndombele at 10 and Skipp/Hojbjerg in CM.

The man's head is not at Spurs, at all. Pointless having him in the team, he's a total passenger.
