What level do you reckon he should go on loan to hopefully get consistent minutes?

Said in the youth thread a few days ago, it's hard to make an assessment of what level he's at when he barely played any minutes last year and Argentina go straight from an u20 to u23 team so not been playing youth international games either. At least when Sarr wasn't playing under Conte, we could see how he was developing in Senegal games. Can't say I saw that much of Veliz playing before but there was a decent amount of excitement around him, particuarly how strong he was in the air.
Championship at the least, maybe an SPL club just to see if he can rack a few up. If Troy Parrott can score goals in Holland, I've no doubt that Veliz could, but obviously would prefer him to stay in England ideally.

His movement off the ball really impresses me, might be for the bench this year tbh, will depend who they loan out and what Ange thinks in training etc.

I suspect the order might be Veliz > Scarlett > Lankshear in terms of getting off the bench in the league this year if they've paid £13m for him or whatever and Will likely to go on loan somewhere for more senior football as he has the least experience in men's football.

Pretty mediocre first half for me. Porro great defensively, hilariously bad when going forward. Austin not a fan of playing out from the back, but looked like he pulled off a great save from a header. Son couldn’t control the ball. My tip for POTY this season is Johnson, but not if he plays like that. Maddison seemed to want to prove a point and was going Roy of the Rovers at times.

Second half much more fun. Spence was excellent - good positioning, pace, threatening. Bergvall pretty decent too. Defenders bouncing off Lankshear. Maybe seeing the success of youngsters at the euros and our guys performing tonight will give Ange the urge to use a few regularly?

And a lot of fucking seagulls for some reason.

As excited as I am about the group of young players we have.. I do feel like it puts the team and especially the manager in a bit of a bind this season.

Of course we want to see this talented group get a lot of serious minutes , as it's the only way they'll develop into what they can be. However, there will also (rightly) be the demand that this season we kick on from the good points of last year and become a team that can be considered serious in competing for trophies. That's a lot of pressure to put on players, many of whom have either just set foot in top level football, or have yet to even make the step.

Is there the appetite/patience to swallow another season #1.

Only watched the highlights, glad to see some of the youngsters do well in the second half. Hearts are basically a strong L1 side. Some of the comments in here are wild, modern football I guess.

I wouldn’t get too carried away with the result – Ange’s Celtic team lost 6–2 against West Ham a couple of years ago. The gulf in quality is enormous. We can get carried away with this cohort of wee bairns playing together though. Berg, Moore, Gray et al will be pushing each other towards excellence for years

Didn't get a chance to watch the game.

Can somebody please summarise which players we have now deemed worse than Sunday league players and absolutely must have their contracts terminated immediately because nobody would even give us a Mars bar for them?

It’s pre season and at this moment we will be going into the Leicester game with Sonny,Deki and Johnson as our front three. Don’t know how injured Richy is but he is on his way out in my opinion. Tonight showed we have some very good youngsters and hopefully the likes of Lankshear and Moore get a chance this season but too many get carried away. Hearts second half team was much weaker than their first half team so that shows what we were playing against. Would like to see them get a chance in against the likes of Bayern but it will be the usual 4 or 5 fighting for the three front positions unless we sign someone. This season I think we’ll be good to watch but ultimately will be similar to last season with that front line. Our front players still giving the ball away and it breaking down too much against Hearts gives me the fear if we don’t sign a striker and winger.

If you think the job of a winger is to do absolutely nothing other than pop up in the 6 yard box for tap ins, I have a 6th place finish to sell you
2011 Barcelona, widely considered to be the greatest club side of all time had Pedro Rodriguez starting RW.

Thomas Muller, Theo Walcott.

Johnson will never be a great natural footballer but what he does have, and you really can’t teach it. is a knack for finding space in and around the box to do first time final actions.. it’s not pretty to watch but he is effective.

Some people really do live in a state of misery 😂

It was the first friendly of the season, we saw good football, our new signings perform well, our youngsters play well and we scored 5 goals.

What's not to enjoy?

I know it’s Hearts and a pre-season but you can judge our players against our other players.

What stood out clearly was most youngsters and new signings (Gray, Bergvall, Moore, Devine, Lankshear, Hall, Donley) as well as Spence performed better generally than our seniors and mainstays.

Totally agree with this. As you say, only Hearts in pre-season, but some very promising signs. I was very impressed with Gray and Bergvall - both not just technically strong but units as well with athleticism. Was actually surprised how big Gray was despite watching his YouTube compilations from last season - looks like he is still growing! Lankshear looked really sharp, good movement, nice touch, pin point finish. I really hope we get to see him in a full strength first XI this pre-season for at least a half. Hall glides effortlessly around the pitch and silky and elusive in possession. Another great talent. One surprise on the nigth was Djed Spence who looked very good at RB. I suspect his character is not to Ange's liking, so would be surprised to see him stay with us this season. Donley looked good, a little leaner and played one glorious ball into the box. Lastly, Mikey Moore looks like he will be a wildcard for the first team this season. His movement reminds me a little of a young Chris Waddle, get a mullet on him ASAP!

Djed must be training well otherwise he would not have been given the chance. Also that is maybe the best game I've seen Porro play defensively.
It would be dreamland if Spence were to have a turnaround.
Is it just me or did he actually look younger and less Snoop-like around the eyes tonight?

You never know, sometimes the penny just drops. Although we were still trying to sort a fee out with Genoa only a week or so ago, so who knows.
