Player Heung-Min Son (손흥민)

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Been brilliant. Worst period for us but so fcuking what.

Great servant and never asked to leave even when he was firing them in left, right and centre.

I wish we had more problems like the one Son is presenting.

I guarantee you Conte would just laugh at the comments that talked of Son being moved out. Laugh or cry.

I didn't say buying a player only for marketing. Clearly the guy also has to be worth money on the ball, the initial investment is there to get the club in a better position

......But that's the essence of the debate you've inserted yourself into.

and as it turns out for Levy, and I don't think he expected Son to provide a new fanbase culture which also took a few years to ramp up didn't it

I don't know that growth-rate or the monetary value of it..... Without data; it's just guess-work..... (See comment above about "hollow counter-arguments")

He would be an idiot to sell him after the success of last season and pre season based on his output so far this season

HMmmmmmmm....... We're in a completely different discussion now...... The above was based on the decision NOT to purchase KimMinJae.

If someone offered us (eg) £70m for Son now, I strongly suspect that would likely out-strip his remaining commercial value to the club..... The only reason to keep him would be IF we feel that we'll get another 2/3 years of top-class output from him on the pitch.

I'm a bricklayer and know the 75 times table that's about it

That's not to be fucked with. :adesalute:

Mate, its football. Really no need for it. I'd be looking for decent offers for him come January/summer as i think its the right time to sell for a fading player but he's still a Spurs legend, annoying as his current form is.
Yes, it is football.
And I do not have anything against Sonny.
In fact I love him. And I would wish he would stay with us.

My critique is not towards Sonny. It is against Conte who stubbornly pushes on with awful and painful outcome for results of the club, for fans and also for Sonny as it seems. Things are not getting better from his view either.

He has played 1036 minutes of EPL football and has had any kind of positive influence to 2 games - Leicester where he scored this memorable hat-trick, and Brighton game where he gave assist to our winner. But in other games he is holding us back. And what pissed me off most - now he has been given chance to give corners as well. Surprise-surprise, we got nothing out of corners until Son gave them and scored from when Perisic delivered one for Davies...

It is honestly painful to watch him at this point. And painful to watch Spurs when one out of two designated forward players is not contributing.

Well put together response, 12/10 would give it 15 if I could. Refreshing to have a discussion without swearing

It's this attitude that holds us back.

When did Ferguson ever keep a player who was well last their best? Heck, he'd have them out if he thought they were a year away from taking a downwards turn.

Our fans still think Moura deserves minutes for something he did 3 and a half years ago.
We really need to be more ruthless.
I would give Son until the end of the season to try to rediscover his form but if this carries on, I'd be looking for a new club for him. At times we look like we're playing with 10 men.

I hope its FOMO for the world cup. I really, really hope that's what it is.
But I'm a tad worried he's burnt himself out.

The rest of that has nothing to do with attitude.

......Be it bad form, bad luck, being finished or sub-conscious WC-FOMO; Sonny is a trier.

even that would be quite naive though, hes 30 now and the body starts slowing down then no matter what your diet is and how you look after yourself. for a player whos been all about pace, we have to move him on before his value plummets.

hes not got the football I.Q to adapt his game, hes also not good enough at some of the basics, which is being exposed even more now as hes lost the physicality to successfully run with the ball as much as he did before.

the time to sell him is after this season, if we dont we have hung onto him for too long and passed up the chance to get some good cash in for him. its getting these situations right that are crucial for all big clubs.

This really isn't true. There's no magic slow down button when you hit 30. Loads of athletes peak after this age (even ones who rely on speed & agility) and many maintain that level well past it. It totally depends on the individual genetics wise & also how they've looked after themselves.

He's still quick. I'd get the age angle if he was looking a tad sluggish but that hasn't been his issue at all.

what footballers do you know that hit physical peaks post 30? and you think son is going to be in a better position physically in a years time to what weve seen from him previously?

Benzema, Ronaldo, Vardy, Illicic, Immobile ... and that's just off the top of my head. And there's so many like Robben, Ribery, Thiago Silva, Lahm etc who continued well in to their thirties with no noticeable physical decline at all.

I'd say there's more of a mental fatigue factor for players who play for too long (unless you're Ibra/Buffon..) & unfortunate players like Owen who suffered from injuries. Someone like Rooney declined because he treated his body like shit.

Most players aren't dropping off as they hit 30 these days.

Vardy hit his peak post 30, as did Benzema, and Lewandowski didn't slow down after 30.

Yea the age decline doesn’t gel with me because of the bolded. He’s still quick, it’s just that he can’t pass or finish to save his life at the moment. Neither of those things I would associate with age decline

The irony of this blokes name is worth his weight in gold.

It makes no sense as an explanation. He’s just turned 30 and is a player who looks after himself ffs.

He also had the best season of his career months ago. Nobody physically goes to shit that quickly, it would be a slower decline.

Just an out of form player maybe struggling a bit in a system not creating as much for him as well. It happens.

Everyone's pissed at his bullshit on the pitch, but let's remind ourselves that he's still a Spurs legend who cares.

I'm so confused as to what you think happens to your legs when you turn 30.

They're not self aware. They don't go 'oh shit boys, it's the big one, time to turn to shit!' the second you start tucking in to the cake.
younger players can recover quicker and get through more sprints at a high intensity in games. in all the years ive watched football ive not seen any players and thought they looked quicker in their 30s than they did when they was younger. ive also not seen any and thought they had better stamina in their 30s than when they was younger. a lot of wide players end up coming more central as they age if they have the brain to do it.

even for arguments sake if son was to be at his physical prime in the next 2 years, after them 2 years hes going to be worth fuck all. the time to sell is now.

well see how it pans out after the world cup if this theory of him saving himself is true. he looks like hes physically declining to me but time will tell.
