I hope Son does take all the freekicks, Kane is extra useless at freekicks and just doesnt have the technique to curl the ball on a setpiece. We need a change on that front.

I guess you can say it's both. Asian parents are absolutely fucked in the head when it comes to expectations/demands on their children. It's also important to constantly display actions/words of humility.
Don't generalize... Most parents are not like that. I have barely seen any tiger parents around.

It's definitely more of a thing over there. Stats don't lie. Kids packed into hagwons after school, forced into "respectable" careers, etc. The ridiculous suicide rate among teens and young adults. etc etc.
It's the society, not the parents. Also, you can't really compete with other kids if you don't go to Hagwon. Most kids go to Hagwon on their own, not because they are forced to by their parents.. Don't talk as if you know shit when you don't.. Have you even lived in South Korea? I lived my entire childhood there so I know what I am talking about.

So it's the society not the parents... is that a meaningful distinction? So kids in Asia are that much more driven to succeed at high school age than in the west that they voluntarily go to hours of extra schooling after their regular school days are done? There's no other dynamic at play?

You said it's all on their parents, when it's not. Students just can't keep up with everything they need to study for college entry exam + school exams unless they go to Hagwon. Do you even know how expensive these Hagwons are? Many kids really want to go but they can't because they are poor.
You obviously don't understand how big this college exam (aka Suneung) is in South Korea. Most students believe the result of that exam determines their futures, and sadly, it is true. It's the society that forces students to study their asses off to go to good colleges. Again, live in South Korea first and see how their entire society works.. I went through this hell myself, so stop talking as if you know better..
Son also never said his father tiger-parented him. He said he made him train hard and he is where he is today because of him. There's a clear difference between tiger-parenting and good parenting to help kids to achieve their dreams.
Son in fact said his dad warned him multiple times it would be tough when he said he wanted to be a soccer player. And Son also agreed that he would do all of the hard trainings to achieve his dreams.. His dad did not "force" him to be a soccer player just because he was demanding. He trained him hard to help him achieve his dreams..

Chill the fuck out man. You've taken a frankly harmless comment about Asian society, and Asian parents being overly driven and demanding towards their kids and turned it into some weird flex about how well you're acquinted with Korean culture.
I never said it was just parents. Asian society, including South and South-east Asia have this in common with Korea. Parents, and elders garner much more respect and authority than they do in the west. You hardly need to snort flaming hot shin nooldes to know that.
I know about the crazy make or break college entrance exam in Korea, it exists in China and other parts of Asia too. It's still a product of the hyper-cometitive culture, and pushy parents is a part of it.
You generalized about Asian parents. That's clearly a prejudice. That's not "harmless".

well, it's true. Generally speaking Asian parents have more narrow and higher expectations of their kids. General doesn't mean universal.
Asian also doesn't mean just Korean.
