Performance How far away are we really from challenging the top 4 again ?

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

He's 22, it's almost as if young players can't be coached or something.
I just think his positioning is awful. If he doesn’t have it now he never will. But as I said I could well be wrong. Obviously hope I am wrong . But if a good offer came in I would sell. But there again I’m not sure I would trust us to sign anyone better. So maybe best to keep him after all. Lol

Spurs fans had this energy with Danny Rose before Poch got hold of him, we just need to chill sometimes and recognise the fact that not just Udogie, all of our players lack serious coaching, until a new coach comes in who can improve players I'd prefer we chill until we throw them on the scrapheap.

This is true . Danny Rose was all over the place but poch made him a lot better. Was part of the best back 4 in Totttenham history in my opinion

For me to get top 4 we need too;

Replace the manager in the summer, zero point in doing it now and winding up with Masons mates for the remainder.

Get a better keeper, As good as Vicario is at shot stopping he is a total liability on set pieces and crosses, costs us too many goals and PL opposition is going to exploit that time and time again.

Get shot of Romero. he's been piss poor this season, clearly doesn't want to be here and is a walking red card. I just think we will be better off with him gone. Full stop.

Get an experienced DM from somewhere.

Get a quality CF to at the very least replace Richarlison, ideally upgrade on Solanke.

Those are the most pressing issues at the club. I don't think we are that far away from the top 4. Certainly not as many places and as big a gap as the league suggests.

2-3 players, a new manager with a more pragmatic approach and there is zero reason we can't be competing with the likes of Newcastle, Forest, Villa, Chelsea and that chasing pack.

My theory is that the Premier League is probably fixed and the Pep inspired tica taca makes match fixing easier.

The bunch of teams Spurs find themselves in; Wet Spam, Yanited, Everton etc; all have a similar hard core of legacy supporters in their 50's & 60's.

These old bastards are far more likely to protest about owners and issues that effect supporters due to historical trade union membership or being involved in protests and demonstrations.

Younger supporters generally regard the old bastards as 'bed blockers' in respect of monopolising season tickets and away tickets.

Maybe Levy and his colleagues from the other clubs have planned and staged this season of shite to persuade the old fuckers to jack it all in?

I think there is a definite element of corruption, particularly officials and the favouritism towards the usual suspects.
But to say the whole thing is fixed is a stretch. Young footballers are generally thick as mince. No way they could execute something that machiavellian.

Quick question: Why is there a top-5 bar in the BBC pl table? Are 5th guaranteed a CL place or soomething? Or have they just rolled Europa into the 'qualifying spots', something like that?

Due to performances from PL teams in european competitions, UEFA have awarded PL a 5th place in CL next season.

That means EL places start from 6th next season (although if a PL wins either or both EL and CL, there may be more than 5 PL teams in CL next season and EL places adjusted accordingly)

English teams win PL a 5th CL place by getting best/highest coefficient points in european competitions this season - we now cannot be overtaken even though there are some european games still to be played. Table shows current standing

PL clubs whose coefficient points won the 5th (extra) CL place next season. Only ManCity scored poorly being knocked out relatively early

Within 2 seasons if we get recruitment right.

Recruitment is definitely key.

But the squad is a lot stronger than 12 months ago after recruiting Bergvall, Gray, Odobert and Solanke (the first two improved a lot in the first half season, and will become far more consistent and improved next season) last summer, and then Danso, Kinsky and Tel - with a question mark over Tel on loan and whether he has done enough to buy (at less than the 60m) or loan again. So repeat another 4-6 quality recruited players and we improve again.

We now have a full squad (see below) so its a question of upgrading where we can to get into top 4 - but to get to the very top we need to get a couple of really top class players either through developing those we have or some of our very good youngsters who at 17 to 20 are at a good age.

Spurs 25 man squad used this season after removing Forster, Whiteman, Davies, Regulon and Werner (all contracts expired – Davies and Werner have significant playing time in 2024/25 needing to be replaced next season)

GK's (3) - Vicario, Kinsky, Austin,
CB's (4) - Romero, Van de Ven, Dragusin, Danso
FB's (3) - Porro, Udogie, Spence,
CM;s (5) - Bissouma, Bentancur, Sarr, Bergvall, Gray,
AM's (2) - Maddison, Kulusevski
FWDS (8) - Solanke, Johnson, Son, Richarlison, Tel, Odobert, Moore, Scarlett

Everyone will have their own ideas, but improving on even 6 of the above would make a huge difference
