Ex-Spurs Player Hugo Lloris

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

that the engraving was to immortalise just getting to the final, not winning it. He feels that was small time
Yes, but I’m saying if the shirts said the same, surely he’d have as much of a public problem with that?

And whilst I get the theory here, a professional having something like this effect him seems a bit weird to me. Hopefully, our present players have more mental strength.

In fact the kit actually said

FINAL MADRID 2019
ESTADIO METROPOLITANO - 1 JUNE
TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR FC vs LIVERPOOL FC
Cheers!

Point remains that whilst it was a daft thing for Levy to do, even opening up the possibility it would effect the players, I’d have hoped for more mental strength from a World Cup winning player than to be effected by an engraving on a fucking watch.

perhaps because he just came off the back of winning the world cup, so he saw a stark difference in how getting to the final was seen as win for us and for france it was not maybe? and then it seems he, poch and Harry were irked that the club didnt view it as a massive disappointment that needed correcting afterward.

The shirt was different.

Let’s be honest, France getting to a World Cup final is less of a thing than us getting to a CL final. So of course we’d view getting to the final as a huge achievement. I still do!

Bit of a wet wipe excuse from Hugo in my eyes.

As for Poch being irked, he can get to fuck for telling anyone that would listen that he’d jack in if we won.

Might just be me, but I think Hugo comes across as an absolute fanny in this book extract. Especially the Conte part. We built the club around fragile players and won what you'd expect with such characters. Conte might be a nutter but he is also a serial winner of league titles.

I think it is a case were both parties are right in their own way/mind.

Successful people tend to have egos and think that they know best. Hugo's a professional athlete and a world champion in his sport. So he is probably in the right in his own head. But yeah. He does come off as a bit of a grouch.

Is Hugo trying to excuse the players - With an engraving like that, Levy couldn’t have been surprised if we had been 1–0 down after a couple of minutes: so it was written

and blame Levy instead?

On some level I get what he is saying. He thinks that giving out the watches before the game sent the message that just reaching the final was what was worth celebrating. Rather than aiming to win it. But it also feels like he is making a bit of a mountain out of a molehill. If a sponsor wants to gift the players with watches then surely that is the sponsor's perogative?

But it feels like something that could have been so easily avoided by handing them out after the game rather than before it.

Bet you he was happy grabbing the “get into the top four” bonus he undoubtedly had in his contract. Pure winning mentality…..

Easy to look back and say stuff like this now. But does he not remember the scenes at the end of the semi final when his manager had a full on breakdown at the final whistle? Paint this any way he wants, getting to that final was a huge achievement. And the only thing that stopped them winning it, was themselves, not a fucking tin timepiece.

I always thought having a keeper as a goalie as a captain choice even if they were their country’s captain. He has to be able to put pressure on and talk to the ref. After the drink driving incident he should have been replaced as captain by Kane.

If you watched the Amazon doc you would have seen that Lloris is a far better captain than Kane. Impressive speaker in the dressing room . Poch had previously said that the owners thought they had won by just getting to the final. Kane may have thought the same but we all knew Poch would pick him instead of Lucas. Easy option but we knew Kane always takes 2 or 3 games to get going after injury.
Ramsey had the guts to leave Greaves out of the World cup team. Might help if Kane turned up for a semi or final , with us or England.
