Cracking read (with some video links too) of the final round of European qualifiers for 1994 World Cup. So much going on all over Europe on this day back in 1993. May have posted this previously but I don't care. And apologies to our Welsh contingent for bringing this up again. And to David Ginola, in case you are online today.

FIFA have wrecked it as so many teams now qualify for the WC. There is no tension for the better teams. Only at the Scotland level do you get any tension.

As ever, cash.

TBH if you're going to have a 48 team WC, then there's about a dozen teams for whom qualification is a complete waste of a time. Not sure what the answer is. I'd rather WC qualifiers were just for the bottom 35 or so places in the finals and the other teams didn't play any qualifiers.

Infantino is an out and out crook...

I think you're right. As much as I despise the idea, it's borderline pointless the 'big' countries having to bother with qualifying (Italy excepted...) - they may as well have 16 teams go straight to the final and have the rest fight it out, as you allude to.

Spence no mins in two games. TT plays quansa at FB who plays CB in Germany. Not sure what that means for Spence. Quansa ain’t that good hence dippers relessg him.

Report Tuchel not impressed with Spence dissing Frank after Chelsea game. Reported to say that as an England player even non International duties important to set example and he did not like what he saw. Did not say that was reason not played and he did get picked for squad but could be the reason to teach him a lesson.

Tel starts for France U21, Odo on bench.
Donley starts for Northern Ireland.
Vuskovic not in the squad for Croatia.
Xavi starts for Netherlands, VDV on bench.

Sarr is out of Senegal game due to injury!
[Hopefully minor]

Iraq/UAE 1-1 with 10 to go. 2-2 on aggregate. Winner goes to the USA. Not sure if Trump's 'visa with a match ticket' may still apply should Iraq win. Nice to see Iran there too.

On another note, tonight Austria need a draw at home to Bosnia/Herzegovina, who in turn need a win to go to the USA. According to Austrian media, B/H will have around 27,000 fans in the Vienna stadium. Should be a laugh.
