He didn't play though, so I don't think really applies to the point I was making.

Just keeping them here to train and watch from the stands, yes, absolutely pointless.

So if the choice is between playing a youngster, who doesn't do anything amazing for the season but costs nothing in fee and is on low wages, allowing us to focus our funds on the most key areas of weakness, and eventually likely to pull in a decent fee on the back of the experience, or signing someone mildly better, but also doesn't really move the needle over the course of the season, at the cost of ~£20m - £30m, and a hefty wage, then the youngster is a more attractive proposition.

They're not the only two scenarios obviously, but it's what we've come to expect from our club's transfer dealings.

Right now, apparently we are looking to loan out Vuskovic, and yet are still also apparently looking to bring in another cb. Are we bringing someone in to challenge Romero and VDV? Unlikely, so are we going to spend another £25m on a Danso like backup? It's baffling.

We currently have no "10", but some have pointed out how foolish it could be to go out and spend the £40m - £60m you'd need to get an established player in that position when those injured will eventually return. If not now, then when will be the opportune moment to give Donley some minutes.

He could go to Stoke and ride the bench all season, and some would use that as confirmation he wouldn't have contributed much here, but it's just not that simple.

Kane had plenty of rubbish loans, became elite here though when he got his chance.

So much of a youngster breaking out comes down to simple luck, right place at the right time. We seem to ignore those moments and prefer to spend our money on average dross from elsewhere, which is strange considering the supposed thriftiness of our owners.

There’s a lot of information there so I’m not going to bore everyone by replying to all of it!

But your first point.
Josh didn’t play much because he’s not that good a footballer. As his career has proven.

And a youngster who has gained experience at other clubs - like harry Kane did in his late teens and early 20s - when they get that chance at their parent club they are far more likely to take it. And If they don’t they get moved on.

Most youngsters won’t make it at the club they grew up in. That’s just a fact.

And I do hope Jamie Donley becomes an answer to a spurs question.

But right now that is a question Thomas Frank is asking and clearly Jamie is not the answer he wants.
And he’s given him a pre season to impress him. So I’m going to trust Tommy. He knows a lot more than you and me.

Donley could have scored I think, but chose to pass to Thomas is an unmarked position who scored.

But excellent work by Donley to get the ball outside the area, get into a position that gk had no choice other than to try to move towards Donley ..... opening up and allowing a great pass to the unmarked Thomas.

Very encouraging that Donley seeming to bridge the gap up to Championship level with no difficulty.

Needs to do a Bale or Ronaldo and hit the gym a bit. Got the brain and the skill of a top AM but I think a bit more explosive pace/power would work.

Can go either way...... Case(s) very much in point.

I'd rather he didn't overload his frame; train for cardio and let his body be it's natural self.

They were both speed merchants to begin with.

He puts on too much muscle he just becomes like Dier or Kulu. People will definitely complain he’s too slow.

He’s just not that fast. That’s apparent watching him for the u23s.

But like they always said about Bobby Moore.
The first yards are in your head.

"Class. He's class," Robins said simply. "Really class"

"Stoke fans will be thinking back to players that they might be able to relate him to. I know I do - he looks a lot like Charlie Adam  in some of the things that he does and, if he can live up to that, then fantastic. He's his own man - he's Jamie Donley"

"He's bright and he's great to have. I'm delighted we've got him and he'll be a big player for us. He'll get better and better over time."

Kobbie Mainoo has got stick from Amorim about not being quick enough. England player and did well for us. I just think Jamie would be better in a deeper role with his vision and passing range. Sit him next to Palhinha.
Modric credited Redknapp for dropping him deeper and becoming the player he was.
These days it’s all about doing what you are told
run . run, and run a bit more. No maverick players any more. Pep has ruined Grealish . Cole Palmer about the only maverick left.

I think Donley is going to be some player. The driving run for the assist yesterday was excellent. Close control, aggressive to bring the ball into the box, the vision to see the player arriving back post on his blind side and the execution and timing of the pass.

He could be our next academy star.

Is there anyone who isn’t going to be a star in your eyes?

You’re just gassing up every fucking player who plays for us at any level.

You’re not the only one doing that mind, but I don’t get why you have this view all these young players can be great when the facts point to the exact opposite. It’s far more likely statistically Academy players don’t become stars. See Winks, Skipp, Scarlett, Devine, Parrot, Tanganga etc

I don’t recall gassing up any of the other players on that list. Winks was great for a while but quickly tailed off.

I’m actually very cautious about academy players. Donley is probably the only one who might have that star quality.

I’m even luke warm on Moore. Seen less from him than Donley.

You didn’t see Mikey getting a double against France U17’s and terrorising them 4-0 May last year?

Great game but players can smash it at youth level and then play in lower divisions.

I would love Moore to do well at Rangers. Would be a huge step forward in his development

It was more than that game, he scored against Spain and Portugal in the other group games, was standout player of the tournament until we went out in Quarters on Pens to later winner Italy.

He was purring in the period, looking every bit a potential young Gazza.

Winks played quite a few games for England, did he not.

Not sure I would want to be the next Charlie Adam .
