Lamela is our highest paid midfielder and his deal runs through June 2020. He hasn't received a new deal because only Lloris, Jan, Kane, and Son are on higher wages - and only just. Most of our players have received new deals because they were extended for contract length (leverage) sake or to bring their wages up in steps equal to their production.

Lamela got all of that on the front end with a 7 year £4M+ per year salary the day he signed. There's simply not reason to do a new deal for him, there's no way Levy would sanction making Lamela our highest earner while he struggled for fitness.

TL;DR - You don't have a fucking clue what you're on about.

There's no way he earns more than Eriksen, though it's pretty clear it was a bad deal all around when we signed him. It's a five year contract, with the option of an extra year I believe. So his contract runs out in the Summer unless we activate the clause. He hasn't actually been available to buy in the last two windows because he wasn't fit. This window may have come too soon to convince potential buyers to shell out for him but I guarantee he'll be on his way in the Summer. We'll see in the rest of this season, he won't be a major part of it, that's if he stays. As I've said, if we make a major attacking signing, he'll be the one to make way.

Lamela is contracted until 2020.

Stop talking out of your ass.

Not sure what the Lamela hate comes from. When he's played, he's our most creative player after Eriksen. And if you want to claim he's shit then you'd need to find a player who both presses like he does and creates like he does. Other than Eriksen, David Silva, and KdB, I am not sure who in Europe that would be.

Do you really believe he actually received that money? Most of these 'wages' are heavily affected by performances like, games played, goals scored and cup wins. There's even insurance clauses being triggered by injuries.
Same goes for the people that think Kane 'only' makes 100k-ish/week. He gets a lot more in bonuses based on performance and he also probably got sponsorship rights.
These million £ contracts arent you regular 9to5 job offers where you show up in the office and you can cash in a check.

He really doesn't create or contribute all that much

He got an assist with pretty much his first touch after coming on as a sub against Leicester. It was a great assist that only maybe Eriksen would try within our squad other than Erik. We'd previously played 79 minutes without being able to break them down.

All the articles from the time state it was a five year deal, most state with an optional extra year, though it's also been stated two be an optional 2 years. Only the club and Lamela know for sure, but what is not in doubt is that it was a five year deal with optional additional time. It's very rare that young players signing deals with optional year's end up playing those optional year's because they invariably either get improved contracts or are sold.

His time injured surely cost him money, but just as these contracts aren't all base salary they aren't even close to mostly performance related either. Whether a player plays, and therefore has the opportunity to reach performance escalators, is entirely out of their hands - no way they agree to compensation primarily earned at the discretion of a manager who may or may not be around tomorrow.

Lamela is very well paid at around £65k pw, making him one of our very top earners. His contract contains a clause we have to activate this spring to extend it to 2020. In actual earnings he's probably behind the likes of Eriksen because the latter has played much more productively recently.

Really, compared to who?

Let's review his time at Spurs (League only, but we can look at European performances too if you'd like), and his creative output (so, chances created and assists):
2013-14: 1.6 chances created per 90, 0.3 assists per 90 (in a pretty horrid year all-round, it cannot be denied)
2014-15: 2.3 chances created per 90, 0.3 assists per 90
2015-16: 2.8 chances created per 90, 0.3 assists per 90
2016-17: 2.7 chances created per 90, 0.2 assists per 90
2017-18: 2.5 chances created per 90, 0.7 assists per 90

Now, 2017-18 is in only 250 minutes thus far, so that should be taken with a grain of salt. But he stands out as consistently averaging creating 2 and a half chances a game, and an assist every 3 games. How does that compare to other players in the league?

Well, that would be a player in the top 15 in England in every season, as far as creative players goes. Alongside Eriksen, Ozil, de Bruyne, Tadic, Coutinho, etc. Now, of those players who create that much, who else also can press like Pochettino would demand? Eriksen, de Bruyne, David Silva and Coutinho are really the only players who have demonstrated that. So, if he doesn't create very much, then who the hell would you suggest we replace him with? The only guys with a history of creating chances at the same volume, and pressing like he does seem to have sold for a rather higher fee than Spurs record transfer, when they've been sold.

I get that you have a hate-n for him, as does a large % of the Spurs fan base. But the hard facts are that Lamela, when in the line-up, has been a very creative player by any way it can be measured, and he'd be very hard to replace. That doesn't mean you have to like him, but it does mean you shouldn't just write him off with demonstrably false blanket statements.
