The lack of DM links. Could it be that Mourinho doesn't want DMs? On the other hand, why has he played Dier so much? I don't fucking understand.
Well, it's either:
1) The club and Mourinho don't like the players available based on skill/ability/fit
2) The club and Mourinho don't like the players available based on fees and wages
3) The players the club do want don't want to come

There's a reason why January is hard to get in quality recruits. Bergwjin came over because PSV is a on fire. Other players are moving mostly to get minutes before the Euros. Other than that its slim pickings.

Jose at 30m would be pretty risk free...

It wouldn't be anything like that, Real Sociedad want €25 million which is £21 million as it stands. If we were to offer say €22 million I think they'd bite our hand off, especially as if not they (a) have an unhappy player and (b) apparently there's a clause in his current contract that says RS have to play the agents who still own 30% of the player a penalty of 30% of the value of any formal offer, so around €7.5 million in this case, a helluva lot of money to pour down the spout

And when's said and done, £18-19 million or so isn't an outrageous sum for a player who has been a Top 6 La Liga team's top scorer over his three and a half years there, nor is it going to break the bank as far as we are concerned, far from it.

I'm ok with us not buying a striker.

The mistake was not having cover in the first place. I don't want us to buy some donkey to try and chase a target that's likely passed anyway.

If skipping now means that in the Summer, we can go all on someone like Jovic, then that's good.
I'd love to know definitively what happened with Llorente, because I've heard it was a contract issues (Levy) but I also heard that Poch wasn't too bothered if he came back and didn't push for him to return.

The fact that the club apparently has only two strikers total in its entire setup is depressing, and one of those is 17.

I think our original offer was £12 million. I can't see Levy offering much more than that.

I think we're only open to a genuine stop gap, that we will sell for a pittance in a year or so.

I'd rather we didn't take that approach, but so be it.

Look at some of the clubs that JM has been to, he doesn't give a shit about fees or wages.

Great point.
Also I wonder if this and the summer window will be influenced much by new rules under Brexit?
Ya that's a huge cloud over the summer. It's going to gain steam in April because apparently no one really knows what it means. The FA is also pushing for more domestic players on the squad so there is alot of dynamics in the background which could cause absolute chaos.
