Not to rain down on your parade but Ziyech is an up and down kind of player. One week he could play world class, but 3 days later he isn't up to League One level.

I remember when Ajax were playing horribly (a stint before last season), the supporters blamed Ziyech first. He also has a bit too much clumsy mistakes in his game.

You can put this down on his age I guess. There's always a bit of a gamble with a player like him, but I think he's worth a shot.

We need a DM thats also a baller. Hard to find.

To be honest, I don't think they need to be that good on the ball, at least going forward. I'd settle for an aggressive DM that knows when to fall into a back three and helps the back line provide cover for the FBs as and when they bomb forward. In terms of going forward, they just need to be able to quickly pass to our midfielders. That's it. Their primary responsibility is defensive.

I'd probably prefer a scrapper like Barrios to a 'ball playing' DM like Berge. Was watching him yesterday and I just don't think that's what we need. The sort of meandering amble out of defense, through midfield is what we have in Sissoko. Instead, we need someone who gets their head up quickly and can ping a pass to Ndombele or Lo Celso.

We need to be able to get the ball from outside of our penalty area to the opposition's in a matter of seconds.

And I think that's something Skipp could do, at least until we bring in another.

I thought their FFP worries were due to the EFL rules, which they would have breached without the sale / loan back of the ground. Now they are in the PL they are no longer a pressing issue. They are allowed losses of 100M over the next 3 years and still comply with EPL FFP.

I thought that but according to an article in Times back in maybe September, it said PL were looking at the sale and leaseback of the ground.

In effect that would suggest that if that transaction was not accepted (or the ground value was overstated etc) that there would be some kind of hangover taken into PL. But I'm not sure of how that would work - unless PL said Villa had to get some sort of clearance from EFL that they had no FFP issues before getting to PL (but I'm not sure that is included in PL rules). But I know a few Championship clubs (eg Leeds) were very unhappy at Derby and Villa using the sale of their grounds to get out of FFP problems, so its a bit unclear what if any repercussions that might have (especially after EFL are being compelled to apologise to Bury and their fans etc for EFL failure to oversee the EFL financial rules properly).

from Portugal league there are several players who I think could improve the team a lot.
Ruben Dias would be a great CB for easily ten years. for left back Alex telles. available for around 40M euros and much better than current rose. I want to see foyth get his chances as the club right back. there’s also Bruno Fernandes but I don’t think we should make him a priority. We barely play ló Celso. And Florentino Luís from Benfica as well. A DM. will be a beast no doubt.

On a similar topic. Do you think there are any managers in the Portugese league that are ready for the step up? I lifted that point in one of the Poch threads that if he leaves maybe it would be smart to look towards a manager at a big club in a "smaller league" since they could come in with experience in winning titles and with a bit of that big deal mentality.

I understand if you don't want to see Conceicao leave Porto since you follow them but do you think there are any managers at the Portugese big clubs that could make the move to the PL like Nuno?

At the moment maybe only Conceição in Portugal. He gets the results and Porto barely loses with him. Got 88 and 85 points in 34 league games which is very very good. Never lost a cup game in 90 minutes. 4 times in pens actually. Got to the last 16 and last 8 of the champions league before get destroyed by Liverpool twice. The football ain’t pretty but it’s effective and he’s a crazy guy. He literally takes shit from no one.

Sounds like what we could need. But it would of course be understandable if Porto did not want to part with him mid season. Lage have only been at Benfica for a short while (a year roughly) and I have no idea who is the manager of Sporting.

These are the types of people we should be buying.
