I agree mate. We also need to remember that Levy is never going to come out and say we are looking to spend money in Jan. That’s not his style.

This. He is a master of using a lot of words to say very little.I agree mate. We also need to remember that Levy is never going to come out and say we are looking to spend money in Jan. That’s not his style.

I think he will keep his head down, train and play if and when. Not a Bogard moment but he feels slighted by Levy and will cut off his nose to spite his face. One more signing on fee in a year or so at West Ham or Everton.
This Jarrod lad has been highly rated for some time, hasn't he?
My only question is, isn't this the exact same position that Jack Clarke (remember him?) plays in.
Fuck me, that was a weird, shambolic bit of business
I would be surprised if we didn't shift 1/2 out and try to bring 1/2 in depending on what is available but as with most things money talks. In January, biggest issue regarding buying players isn't going to be money - its going to be how many slots in the squad are available to fill.
In terms of overseas trained players we have the maximum of 17 (under UEFA definitions), so to sign any overseas trained players we will need to sell.
There are rumours of a deal for Wanyama to go to Hertha Berlin which would create one slot.
Of the 3 amigos whose contracts run out at end of June 2020, it looks to me as if Alderweireld and Vertonghen are playing both well and regularly. In short I don't see either leaving in January - and its up in the air to me whether a contract extension for one or both will be announced in the next month or two or one or both will leave in June.
The 3rd amigo, Eriksen, is playing well enough when coming off the bench (Wolves being a good example) but imo he is more likely (not a certainty) to move on in January.
Whilst I think the club would listen to offers for Rose, it sounds more likely he wants to be stubborn and see his contract out, and whilst I'd be happy to see Aurier, its only if we brought in a decent RB option in January too - and co-ordinating that isnt going to be easy. No other obvious candidates to leave that I can think of.
No problems on the Home Grown front, we have 2 spare slots. However the much bigger problem is identifying and buying suitable players to fill them, the list of candidates is really not that long.
So best case Transfer Window :
1. Wanyama and possibly Eriksen leaving allowing us to buy one or maximum two overseas trained players (three at a stretch if we can sell Aurier and buy a RB).
2. Up to two HG players bought to fill available slots.
Worst case is of course no Overseas Trained players leave so we cant buy any either - and no HG players arrive !
Reason to be optimistic of some movement in January is that this summer if not going to be that easy to make transfers as most European players will be involved in Euros, which with a 2 week training camp before hand and three weeks leave for players afterwards......occupies most of the summer from mid June to start of PL (so almost no pre-season for players again).
I still laugh at the small contingent that accuse Levy of foisting Louis Saha and Ryan Nelsen onto Redknapp.
I think Levy probably preferred younger players, but I don't think he's against signing players of a certain age if the coach wants them.
Redknapp regularly signed 'older' players
No problem wiith signing him, it the loaning him to a team who won't play him bit that seems shambolic
An interesting thesisIt's not that.
I can't think of one player who has come direct from the Scottish league to a big team in the EPL and been a success. The successful players generally come down, join a championship or league one side, adapt and build up.
Had we signed McGinn straight from Hibs, I doubt he would be the player he is today. He was given the time and leeway to get himself up to speed and managed to do so, ditto Robertson, ditto Fraser. Then there's Alan Hutton, Barry Ferguson, John Alain Boumsong and Carlos Cuellar. All massively rated, all let downs.
Even the Tugays and Amorusos, players with years upon years of experience prior to the SPL never really set the heather on fire. Apart from few games.

Lol what? The only player I can think of that didnt have a potential pre-sale was Parker.
