Transfers January 2022 - Transfer Window

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Except it was 16/17 that we were at our best, and yes Walker and Rose shit all over Doherty and Reguilon. We also had Dembele who you left out and was one of the best players in the league in that period, then you’ve got Eriksen and Dele. Also not only did we have Prime Jan we had Toby who was incredible in that period.

Lloris=Lloris

Walker>Emerson
Dier=Dier
Toby>Romero
Vertonghen>Davies
Rose>Regulion
Wanyama>Hojbjerg
Dembele>Skipp
Eriksen>Lucas
Dele<Son
Kane=Kane

You must be trolling if you honestly think this side could hold a candle to that team.

You forget, but Winks played 33 games that season and Sissoko 39.

Rose only played 20 games that season; Davies was our primary left back.

We had Onomah, N'Koudu, Janseen, Wimmer, Carter-Vickers, Vorm as our options on the bench.

If that squad was competing in Today's league - with City, Chelsea, West Ham, Woolwich, Liverpool, United at the level they are now - We would probably be in a similar position to now - hopeful for 4th at best; but expecting 5th or 6th.

A couple of factual points, Winks made 3 league starts and Sissoko 8 that season.

Rose and Davies made an equal 18 starts in the league.

Sonny came on as a sub in 11 league games.

Pep and Klopp were both in the league, both finishing top four.

From 14 December, essentially after our not-quite-ready-yet false start of a CL campaign (which did stretch a squad depth we didn't really have, you aren't totally wrong) our league results were:

W19 D2 L2

There have been some extraordinary teams in the league in recent years, 96 points would have gotten you 3rd in 2018-19, but that team in that spell was right there with any of them.

That team walks to 4th this year and is likely ahead of Chelsea as well. Maybe even competing with City and Liverpool, you really are doing your best to down play that team.

Rose and Davies played the same amount of games with Rose clearly being the better player and preferred option.

Someone already pointed out that Winks and Sissoko rarely started so their game totals you list are very misleading.

Kane-Son upfront at worst equal to Kane-Son now but really with Kane's form probably better.

Eriksen, Alli (at that time), Dembele, Wanyama and Dier much better options than Skipp, PEH, WInks, Moura. Only potential better player we have now is Skipp over Dier. Depth wise Sissoko, Lamela, Winks certainly no worse than Bergwijn and the 3 guys leaving or Bentancur/Kulusevski.

Walker, Jan, Toby, Rose (even if you put Davies there) much better than Royal, Sanchez, Dier, Romero, Davies Reguilon pick you best group from that. Wimmer, Trippier and your choice of Rose/Davies much better depth than Tanganga, Rodon, Doherty, Sess.

Janssen as terrible as he is is better than any back-up striker we have since that would be Scarlett. Vorm at worst equal to Gollini likely better but who cares about a back-up keeper.

Yeah and that was a Winks that was just breaking through and looking really promising, we also had Son and Lamela who weren't on that XI. That squad would be 2nd or 3rd today. You really think this West Ham, Woolwich or United side is competing with that team? Come off it. This side is drastically worse.

If you're going to do this 2016/17 comparison to now, you need to compare the entire squad, not the starting eleven...

So did we get anyone else in the end or did we really just loan out/sell 5 players and bring in 2 Juve fringe players?

Kulusevski and Bentancur in
Dele, Lo Celso, Ndombele and Gil out

Would have been great if Levy would have spent more, but Kulu and Bentancur seem like good business given the circumstances, if a bit underwhelming. Dele, Lo Celso and Ndombele all needed to be moved on to fresh opportunities (and successfully were).

Gil I'm sad about leaving as I really love his play style, but it seems like a decent enough loan move for him, and though perhaps unlikely, I hope he returns to us as an improved player next season when we are in a better situation stability-wise.

Levy overall did 'OK'- I give him a solid 'C' for this window.

Wish I knew more about the Dele add ons and the Lo Celso option. It’s a bit hard to assess.

I also wish we’d been willing to “spend” more giving Lyon an Ndombele option they might theoretically take.

Our outgoings in a vacuum (an improper way to assess them) were a positive, but depending on a couple of pieces we don’t know and some we do, perhaps not THAT positive.

I am happy a clearout of players Conte doesn’t want has happened. That was more crucial for Poch than some remember.
Correct me if I am wrong, but is there anything stopping us from selling Ndombele to Lyon for less than the 60 million if we get no other offers and they wanna pay, say 30? If not, then why put the clause lower than we need to? Imagine he is a success there, PSG comes in and offers 55 million euros, but we have to sell to Lyon for 30 because we put their option to buy at that. I really dont see the problem here.

In fairness I went back a bit through some of his older videos (he basically runs a Juve fan channel) and he’s had these views for a long time. They legitimately mostly seem delighted these players have gone.

Doesn’t mean they’re right of course, fans are wrong all the time. But it’s hard to get excited about signing players another struggling club are thrilled to be rid of.
If you were a fan visiting this site you'd think most of our players were utter shite - fans are wrong all the time especially when players leave.
Many Chelsea fans thought Salah was a waste of 11m, happy when they swapped him for Cuadrado ... how did that work out for either player?

We just say no more excuses every failed window & every cock up levy does. But then do nothing.
I don't think we'd ever have cleared so many out of the squad, never had a full season of new stadium and never gone into pre season with Conte.

If the same shit happens with all of those factors in play, there needs to be more than half a dozen plebs at the training ground protesting.

And we didn't buy them all?!

#LEVYOUT

Go ask neutrals who they'd prefer to have out of Tierney and Reguilon. Or who they'd rather have between Tomiyasu and Emerson. How many neutrals fans do you think take Romero and Dier over Gabriel and Ben White?

Almost none. Let's face reality here.

Tierney can't defend - ask any Woolwich fan what always happens against a big team - Regi all day long when he's fit.
Tomiyasu has done well playing 1400 minutes with 1 assist, Emerson has managed 1200 with 1 assist, let's face it neither are pulling up any trees.
Romero (23)/Dier (28)/Sanchez (25) >>>>> Gabriel (24)/White (24)/????? all day long, we've conceded less this season despite a manger meltdown. For me we still have far more potential upside.

Sure I'm biased, but then so are you for a bunch of Gooners? You live in a strange reality.
