But ultimately amount to nothing.

If they were winners in finals then I suppose that would have made up for it but there's no getting away from it it's a fairly poor signing for the money we spent.

If you're talking money (which you are!) then Lucas covered his own fee given his impact on that CL run and the money it generated.

2 teams with recent relegations (and another who struggles to make top half most seasons).

Compared our last 15 years with any of those teams.

Sorry, but no.... NO.
Perhaps this is about differing expectations between you and I of what constitutes success.

None of those sides have won a trophy in over a decade and neither have we, so I'd say we are very comparable to those sides in that regard.

Putting the history aside for a moment as well our aspirations are the same as theirs. West Ham, Villa and Everton are all striving for European football.

None of us look likely of winning anything any time soon.

I don't think we have any grounds to claim to be superior to those clubs until we actually win a pot or three.

We need performances; not moments.

You (and I!) were literally criticising Son for this in another thread. Ditto Ndombele.

Even when he was considered hot shit Coutinho used to go missing for games at a time for The Dippers. Since then he's been a part time footballer for the last 4 years.

Great points.

We absolutely need performances and not moments.

For a while we were quite simply unbelievable because we had both.

Well there was no mention of the word "success" in the post I replied to; nor my post that I made....

None of those sides have won a trophy in over a decade and neither have we, so I'd say we are very comparable to those sides in that regard.

Only one of those teams has been involved in title challenges, CL finals, other cup finals, uninterupted Europen qualification inc. 5 years in the CL.... And (however meek) one of us can actually boast a trophy in the last 15 years.

"Strive" being the operative word in all but our case.

Nah (see above).

I understand you're feeling down; but the notion that WH & Villa are 'up there' with us in terms of recent history is bordering on offensive.... Even Everton; I'll only mildly concur because I'm old enough to remember them being a force in the 80s.... But like you suggest; that's 35/40 years ago.

Everyone can get stronger. City could need that extra goal threat for he Champions league that they crave. Liverpool and Chelsea have fallen well behind City in the title race so could strengthen to try to claw that back. Woolwich have banished Auba so may well need a new goal scorer as well as the fact they find themselves more competetive than they expected, they may feel extra strength could help them maintain it. West Ham are flagging under the weight of games and need players badly. Leicester are struggling. Man United are a fucking joke and have as much money as anyone to spend their way out of it. Etc Etc

We are no different to any of them and we are doing nothing differently.
You're all just acting like spoilt brats whinging because we didn't get shiny new toys on day 1. It doesn't happen anywhere so it won't happen here. You're just going to have to deal with it.
I never said they didn’t have needs, ours are appreciably greater is what I said. If you don’t think that you are entitled to your opinion . To have a competitive squad will take a huge influx of players in and out.

Far from easy, however it will be a bit easier if we manage to secure CL football next season. I would like to have a go for it by strengthening in Jan and preferably before the 31st. We have Chavski and Woolwich coming up

Traore will be our 1st signing 100%. I’m pretty excited by it to be honest. Will provide the much needed pace and gaps to open up the opposition with his style. Imagine him under Conte.

Kind of reminds me of a great car analogy.
BHP determines how fast you hit a wall.
Torque determines how thick the wall has to be to stop you.

Traore has a lot of torque. We just need to have players on the other side of the wall when he gets through. They may have to tackle him themselves as the pass will probably be shit.

You can't force teams to sell us players. You don't know what was said between Levy and Conte. You don't know what money is actually available. You probably don't understand the limitations we have with squad management in terms of foreign and overseas. We may be waiting for 2-3 to leave before we sign some one. It may even be that we have to see who leaves before deciding who we can sign.

It's day 6. Chill.

Our biggest problem however is not levy but more our scouting. Because we actually been spending money in the last 3 seasons but it’s been almost all on dog shite players. Seriously. Ndombele lo Celso sessegnon bergwijn Doherty at the very least are colossal wastes of money. And Emerson also looks very limited so far. Hojberg as been terrible but he was decent last season and was cheap. Reguilon is also average so far. And our loans? Gollini gedson and Vinicius. Three extreme limited players as well.
Our scouts pick out suitable players, we get bids rejected, then sign whoever is cheap. That's what it looks like to me. very pick is the cheapest. Apart from maybe Ndombele.
