Transfers January 2022 - Transfer Window

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Alright pal, let's pretend Liverpool offered more. Of course Porto would prefer more money than less money. So now, if we imagine that Spurs had offered more, based on the above rationale, you'd think that Porto would indeed prefer selling Diaz to us, right?

But then, big badaboom, what if the player said to Porto that he really didn't want to go to Spurs, but really fancied Liverpool? Cause you see, a player still has his word to say in a transfer. Incredible, eh? So then, it doesn't matter that Porto would accept Spurs' bid, because the player wouldn't sign for us and would stay at Porto if need be...and they'd be missing out on LFC's big money as a result.

And here's another thing. Most of the media reports that Liverpool didn't actually offer more money - or at least, not that significantly more and not an amount the player wouldn't have happily covered out of his own pocket to get his dream move.

Conclusion: Diaz wanted to go to Liverpool and not Spurs. Same as Traore wanted to go to Barca over us...knowing he's getting lower wages there.

But by all means, keep thinking that it was just a question of us not offering enough money/LFC offering more...no matter how erroneous your opinion is, you're still entitled to it
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Mine is, 'If we went there, offered both player and team what they wanted, they would have signed. Deal done. Doesn't take 5 days. Because we go there, 'listen I want a discount'. Teams say, 'Wait first, I have to think about this'. Which translates into, 'I'm gona chat with a few other teams first to see if I can get what I want'.

Levy is a Master at manipulation. He actually gets people to believe he is trying to get the club to a standard equal to City, Liverpool and Chelsea. He has never truly backed a transfer window, unless he saw a potential return on investment. He has always bought only youngsters hoping they will come good and make a profit. He knows their salaries are way lower than their established counterparts. What quality player, already on the top of his game, have we bought in the Last 5 years? None. How many of these players have we put a bid on? Many. Why? Cause Levy always Haggles. He needs to show you an attempt was made.

I keep hearing we want to follow the Liverpool model. We forgot Klopp went and bought the most expensive, record breaking defender. No haggling. They took out the money and payed. The same for the goal keeper. Winning doesn't come cheap.
Pull it together man.

People who hate Levy build him up to be 100 feet tall.

The problem with Levy isn’t that he’s a manipulator, villainous, money grubbing, etc.

The problem is that he’s fucking incompetent. He’s an investment banker/property developer making decisions about what footballers to sign.

There’s a reason why we have a beautiful stadium and dross football, it’s not because Levy is an evil genius pulling all the strings, it’s because he’s in over his head and has been for 20 years.

If you want to coat off Kulu and Bentancur, I disagree, but I get it. They’ve got a lot to prove.

I don’t understand how anyone who has watched Spurs over the last three years can not be pleased to see the back of Ndombele, Lo Celso, or Alli nor try to paint it as move for us to save money. They are useless, washed up, and borderline infamous for their lack of professionalism. You want to continue paying them to do nothing just to say we’re spending money?

Years and years people have complained about our inability to get rid of deadwood and now they’re mad someone else is paying their salaries and giving us a fee? I don’t get it.

But by moving two of them out on loan deals that are unlikely to be picked up all we have done is save Levy/ENIC money on wages.

Had we moved them out and brought in even just one attacking MFer then great but instead we are just saving money and hoping we can move them in the summer again.

More made-up rubbish.

We'd been linked to Kulu as early as NOVEMBER. And he's on loan; so what you said about pricetag is bollocks too.

You're essentially complaining that we outbid Villa and then moaning (lying) that we got outbid by Liverpool.

You're a mess. Bore off.....
I don't get what your aiming at. My argument was, Pay what they want and get things over and done. In this case Villa were trying to negotiate. We came with more. I didn't say we weren't linked with Kulu. Diaz however was our first choice.

Decent window imo.

Got rid of 3 players that have contributed nothing all season and replaced with 2 players that will actually play.

The Kulu fee seems high cos Juve didnt want to give half of it to Boca. So the fee for Bentancur was lower and the Kulu fee higher. Similar to the James/Moutinho deal from Porto to Monaco a few years ago.

Can't expect much more to be done in January tbh

Enough to get top 4 do you reckon? Do you think conte should be getting top 4 with this team?
It’s very difficult to hold Conte accountable when we’ve left him with misfit dross at such a critical position in his tactics.

People will be very, very annoyed by that refrain in post-match threads after frustrating losses, but that’s reality.

We haven’t given Conte the tools to make a true fist of top four. And it sucks because we were awfully close to it.

Happy enough with the two we've brought in.

Left ourselves short of midfielders and options with all the guys we've loaned out. Didn't address important squad roles in rwb, striker, midfielder with passing ability.

Seems Conte doesn't want the guys we've loaned out so no strong complaints there, but we definitely could have done with one more in.

I actually think with some of our previous failed transfers you could be right - but not these two. Those players clearly already had their hearts set on Barca / Liverpool. Choose your battles mate - you're flogging a dead horse here as you're trying to apply a point that's probably valid for some previous transfer to these two recent ones where all indications are that it simply isn't valid. Honestly, people will respect and listen to you more if you stick to criticising where its undeniable rather than just criticising everything and hoping that some of it sticks (and that no one will notice the logical flaws - no chance of that around here... lol ;) ).

Never know a team with so many fans who love their chairman as much as ours. Usually don’t like them or indifferent . We have people spending most of the day praising & defending them. He really knows how to manipulate & fool people as you mentioned. Got to give him that. Every year he gets it very wrong & we play average. Yet he manages to get his fans to double down on their support for him.

Again, you're missing the point and forgetting an important component = a player's personal preference for a team over another.

Diaz sees himself as an elite player. He wants to play for a super team, one that competes in the CL year in year out, and wins trophies fairly regularly. That's Liverpool and not Spurs. He's also said he really fancies Klopp and the way LFC go about their business.

He picked them and that's what decided the transfer. It really isn't that hard to grasp.

Yeah it does sting my Spurs pride a bit that he chose them over us, but I got over it. Your turn now 😉
