Nah. Realistically I look at this squad and manager and see what they are very close to being capable of.
If that is where we differ then that's what is probably underlying this whole debate.
Loan with Obligation is just a way to finance the deal better for the buying club, im not an accountant but i'm sure it helps with FFP or at least defer the cost for another season.

You ask if you can buy a player. The club says they want £10. You offer £6. They say £9 is the absolute lowest they will accept. You offer £7. You end settling somewhere in between - let's say £8. This is what happens with pretty much every transfer ever done.
So I don't want us to pay the £10 now, I want us to wait and pay the £8.

Son has been quoted several times saying our goals are higher than just CL places. If you feel better about being a fan by managing your disappointment or limiting your hopes for a project that you have zero contribution to, I fully get that. That's not for me mate. I'd prefer the club set itself the highest goals every season.

I get your point, but you can't separate the "pay extra to get him in sooner" from the "risk losing him". Paying extra both buys you a player for United (agree with your pov there), but also assures we actually get the guy. All depends on whether there is a Plan B and how inferior it is.
