The thing about negotiations is they’re dynamic. There isn’t really a selling price for the buying club to “just pay”.

If I’m Genoa and say Dragusin costs €25m and you come in straight away with that money then I’m thinking I have either undervalued him or that you are easily willing and able to pay more.

My next move is to say I want that money in one lump sum. This is completely unrealistic and everyone knows it but if you say no then let’s renegotiate the fee - €35m on a staggered schedule… and around we go.

If there is no release clause then the situation is always dynamic. The selling club doesn’t want X amount (that’s always speculation) - they want as much as they can possibly get for their asset.

Atalanta always a fun watch. Great manager, bit of an Italian Ange. The squad isn't very Italian, though...players from every corner of the globe...and always a fair few changes from a year to another. But it works for them. Made it to the CL a few times, always there or thereabouts for Top 5 in Serie A...
Unlike Ange though Gaspo is a bit (and by a bit I mean a massive) of a cunt in the media. I still like him because he boils the piss of every big fanbase in Italy, be it the big 3 northern sides, the 2 Rome sides or Napoli. Helps a lot that his football is beautiful to watch.

As for CDK, which is where this whole conversation started, I was impressed by him the same way that I'm impressed by Mudryk. He just doesn't fit the system (at Milan) and was playing terribly low on confidence. However, one of my best mates, who is an avid Milan fan, thought he was utter shit and couldn't control the ball to save his life.

He's not going to be here in time to play against Burnley.

Clearly wasn't that important to get him in early. Even if that's what the manager clearly wanted. Not forgetting this is the 3rd CB he has wanted since the summer.

If it costs us the FA Cup run, don't look at the manager.

Why would we give GLC away for free? Get a fucking grip. He’s in the process of turning his career around with us. Ange likes him and he’s playing his part this season. He’s a shit house Argentinian and we need players like him.

Maybe you should get grip yourself?
I never said that we should give him away for free.

You (or someone else, cant recall) said that Barca wants him.
I said that they want him for free.

Ofc we should not give him for free. But it is widely reported that Barca wants him on loan and on random terms. So Barca might want him, but not enough to be willing to pay for him.

I love the bi-annual visits from the business gurus breaking down transactions.

Deals can be done extremely quickly if you establish the true selling price and pay it.

This should have been negotiated in Nov/Dec with terms all agreed on player side. Then you pay a slight premium to get him in the door Jan 1st.

Otherwise you continue to play this back and forth and delay the signing. In the process you lose the chance to bed him in vs Burnley and mean you throw him into a debut at Old Trafford.

Fine to record a 3m saving using this approach but what about if that leads to worse outcomes in the next two games - was it worth it?

What context? And how is that made up?

We have played 1800 minutes of EPL this season. Ange has picked Lo Celso to play 411 of those minutes.
411/1800=22,8%.

If you don't understand it, it does not make it "made up".

How many of those minutes was GLC injured? or available and ready to start?

How many of those minutes were at the start of the season when Ange was attempting to figure out his new team of players and didn't know what he thought of each player?

It's an arbitrary, made-up bollox that intentionally ignores any context at all. (hopefully it was intentionally for your sake because if you really think this is how stats work, you are more hopeless than I fucking thought).

Now piss off with this boring conversation. Please.

We’ll agree to disageee on LoCelso.

But one thing I will point out is that he’s a squad player - in a fully fit squad. He’s the back up for Madders at the 10 and Sarr at the 8. Actually probably 3rd choice at the 8 behind Sarr and Benta.

Fittingly, he’s also paid like a squad player - 15th highest wage on the team. If he’s willing to extend at the same salary, I’d be all for it. A back-up capable of putting up MoTM performances during the 22.8% of the time he’s on the pitch at reasonable (not bargain) wages works for me.

See below.

On a different note, one thing I hadn’t realized until now is that Tanguy is the highest paid player on our payroll at 200K per week. Higher even than Sonny. Jesus wept.
