Transfers January Transfer Thread 2024

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Well we finished 8th last season

And on course to finish top 5 this season....

we didn't get a CB in the summer window

And likely to get one this winter...

and it's cost Ange points. With a guy like Levy in charge I don't think Ange has the luxury of time and slow building without results.

Define results?

We've defied every single expectation most had of us this season. Including from Spurs fans. Only one manager in our history (currently) has a better win percentage than Ange and we are playing some of the best football I've seen from a Spurs team in my lifetime.

What were you expecting?

The media quickly turned on him after a few loses, if we finish outside European places again the pressure is on.

The media doesn't run the club.

We aren't finishing 8th or below this season. To be in January now and for any Spurs fan to think we will is just being a negative prick for negative sake.

Yes I'm prepared to gamble, I think if we want the player we'll get him, and if someone was going to come in and outbid us, that would have happened anyway.

As I said many times, managers always have a list of wants, and they always want them yesterday - why on earth would they say anything different when asked?
It's at Ange's expense though.

I'm sure Ange (unlike much of this forum) will realise that most transfers take time
, that clubs usually negotiate rather than just paying the initial price quoted, he's been arond long enough to know how it all works, nothing happening now will be any kind of surprise or disappointment for him I'm sure. :)
We probably wouldn't even be discussing this if he didnt say he wanted transfers early. He's well aware of what transfers involve more than you and I but he was still very clear about what and why he wants early transfers.

See, this view just doesn’t stack up either. A new GK, new CB and new AM are signings we’ve needed for YEARS.

The squad was nowhere near good enough when we had Kane. We were absolutely horrendous last season.
So who do you think, if anyone, we would have signed if we HADN’T sold Kane?

I don’t think we would have signed Johnson or Maddison without the Kane money. If he’d stayed then we‘d have VDV, Solomon and Vicario and a few cheap deals in attack. Levy was never going to keep Kane AND spend the money required to bring the team to a top level.

We already had Madders.

It was VDV and Johnson, who I have no doubt we wouldn't have signed had Kane stayed.

We have already spent the Kane money, from
levy's point of view.

Perhaps, still a long way to go.

Maybe, maybe not.

I am not the chairman, I'm fine being patient and seeing where things go. I believe we could grow to be an excellent team.

Levy does definitely take notice of the media though and he's a man who tried to appoint a new manager when Jol finished 5th so I don't put anything past him.

Is anyone really surprised that Dragusin isn't done yet??

But every manager who has ever lived has wanted transfers done early! Can't you see the political subtext? They have to say that! They would be stupid if they didn't say that! 😂 I'm sure he does want transfer done as early as possible, just as every other manager does, but I'm sure (also like every other manager), he realises that he won't always get exactly what he wants when he wants. I appreciate your concern for Ange here, but I just don't think it's necessary, will certainly not this degree of concern anyway.

Well, 18 games.

And for the first 20, we've been 5th best. I see no reason as to why that would change besides negativity.

Do you?

Well, I'd say it was a certainty.

I will assume from what's been seen and done, the chairman is probably quite happy with how this season is going compared to last.

Levy does definitely take notice of the media though and he's a man who tried to appoint a new manager when Jol finished 5th so I don't put anything past him.

He'll also take notice of the league position and performances.

Do people just forget that before Jol was sacked that season we had won just ONE game from our opening 10 games and that was against one of the worst teams the league has ever seen (Derby) and sitting in the relegation zone?

I do not agree with how Jol was sacked. It was spineless and disrespectful to a man who really took us up another level - but he most definitely had to go. We were done under him.

I think if he had complete trust in Levy and recruitment he wouldn't feel the need to speak out at all. He spoke out about wanting a CB , he didnt get one, it cost him points. That's the cost of him not getting what he wants.
