To whatever extent; he built that squad that earned them CL!!!

They were massively under-performing under a shit manager (Gerrard)..... Emre took over and boom a place in the top Euro cup comp for the first time since the early 80s.

...........The new guy hasn't totally revamped them in 18 months.
You've created a great argument for sacking ange there. I actually don't know are you ange in or ange out at this point?

It's not like TAA doesn't face mass criticism for his defensive work either.............
Well what's Trent's perfect position then?

He's a flawed defender but outrageously good going forward, just like Trent he looks abject in 1v1 situations however Liverpool make it work and utilise Trent to his strengths, why can't we do the same?

Well that’s for Ange to figure out no?

How many times have we seen a switch of play that leaves Porro isolated 1v1.

Not saying Porro is without criticism but I do think he’s one of the players who is more part of a solution than the problem

Or the next manager perhaps.

My point is that a change of position isn't always required when you have such a talent like that.

Porro is a wingback. As are Udogie and Spence.

Maybe it’s not a gigantic difference but it’s being amplified by a system that consistently leaves defenders on an island

I’m not calling for Porro to play wing. Think that would be stupid.

Again you could say the same about Trent, he's never played as a wing back in his life at Liverpool.

I don't think the answer is to play him exclusively as a wing back, I think he can be utilised as a RB in the right system and personnel around him.

Said it before.... Drop the inverted nonsense and the defensive end of things immediately becomes a lot more instinctual for him.

Even Kyle Walker can understand the simple edict of "own that flank".

It's also true that just because a fullback is good going forward doesn't mean he's a winger. Good attacking fullbacks exploit the space afforded them because the opposition fullbacks are tracking other players, they exploit the numbers provided in an overloaded attack, and they succeed in 1-2s with their supporting wingers/midfielders. When you move that player forward, now the defence is focusing on them, they're not the overloading factor in an attack, and many of those close supporting partnerships disappear.

Sometimes it works - sometimes you have a Bale like player who was miscast at the academy. But most often you have a Sessegnon, whose career was probably fucked up by Fulham allowing him to play as a winger and not developing his defending (and subsequently joining Spurs where the head of medical is Edward Scissorhands).

Porro needs to improve defensively, but at 25 he's one of the best attacking fullbacks in the league. Why should we ruin that advantage by moving him into a new position, when we could just sign the DM that's clearly needed to provide cover to him and the rest of the defence?

Trent essentially played wingback in the earlier incarnations of Klopp’s Pool side. Henderson dropped into the back three to cover him when he stayed higher up the pitch.

But to fit unique players into a system you need creative managers good at solving problems and Ange just hasn’t shown any aptitude for this.

The role you're describing is a full back and this is exactly the way you can utilise Porro, have cover in the vacated space he leaves

Trent also had Van Dijk cover his space as well, a literal cheat code :D

We could but we would need to buy the rest of the Liverpool defence, goalkeeper and central midfielder to keep us tight at the back. Also Slot or Klopp would be very handy too :paraticiwink:
