Is it not really the case that most players, over a certain value and ability, are worth less than their cost as soon as they sign?
Only exception is perhaps players who are an underwhelming/cheap signing, or have a low release clause.
Not all that often that a £60m/£70m+ player is resold later at a profit.
Probably, bit like new cars but we just seem to buy so many young players (18-22/23) between 20m - 50m that are bang average and we struggle to off load. When we do, they go for peanuts.
I think that is why the club might not have an appetite for those risks that fans demand. Whether or not that is a problem with our recruitment, or just the numbers game. I think clubs, in general, suffer from stuff like this. Liverpool and Chelsea seem to be impervious to it

He works in silence scouting youth but its a massive grey area and I'd imagine his performance review won't be great at the end of the year unless the likes of Takai becomes a regular starter which won't happen.
