Management Johan Lange - Technical Director

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Good night for Lange.

Gray, Bergvall, Odobert, Simons, Solanke all looking great.

Lange’s problem is hes decided to build a great te for 2030 and nobody’s got time for that
I’ve been reluctant to critique Lange because most Sporting Directors work should be judged in 3-4 years.

Damien Comolli was considered terrible in 2007-08 but seemed a genius by 2012 which was over 3 years since he had been sacked.

The reason spurs are poor in 2026 is because of terrible planning between 2020-23… which was the “win now” era.

Why should anyone have time for that, though?

His job is to build a squad to win things. That means balance the potential with the players ready now.

He also pushed for Frank which has been a disaster so far
Was his job to win things when Levy appointed him? I think it’s more likely his job spec was to use data to find value in the market and build the squad value. Either way he’s still failed as the general PL performance in the last two years means that these players’ value has depreciated.

use data to find value...

I'd be having a word with his data analysts if that is the case...

Fair point.

I guess now we’re invested in these youngsters, we have to hold through the dip. Last night and other flashes this season have shown the pay off could well be worth it.

But the club never communicated “we’re going to buy loads of kids so it’s going to be shit for a while”…

I guess picking up a major trophy last season during the teething period can only be seen as positive as well

He spoke very clearly early on about wanting to become Europe’s premier destination for young players. He told us what he was trying to do and I think he’s done a good job of recruiting young players.

It’s not clear to me that he was brought in to win now. Although let’s be clear, we have won our first trophy in over 15 years.

Throw a midfield passer into this team in the summer and one or two other good signings and we could run a corner. We’re miserable right now but football moves quicklyZ

It’s a continuing frustration to be a very wealthy club and see it run like a small one.

Only buying youngsters, not buying any players who plug into the 11 unless they are at a bargain price.

This is what youd expect from a club that can’t compete on financials though we are one of the richest.

We’ll see if we can do it on the cheap, but in terms of competing with the biggest clubs, our board is simply not as interested as theirs are.

There has never been an “all for the glory of the club, all for the results on the pitch, giving all for the support” orientation from the board. Club is run with both eyes on the bottom line. You can’t be among the best like that.

Has anyone compared him to this???

Cos the resemblance is fukkin uncanny...

In the wrong job.

Bergvall, Vuskovic have been very smart and clearly he has an eye for scouting. But you get all these high energy young players and give them to a manager in Lange who wants old heads and discipline.

Firstly you need to understand the culture of the club and m secondly how the manager and players fit. Frank is a nice guy but a poor fit. This gives me the impression Lange in his DoF vision role isn’t very good. He should have stayed as a data head scout type.

Does anyone think Lange is doing a reasonable job let alone a good job. Put the incumbent manager to one side, this cunt should be the first casualty. He has under performed from day 1. Get shot of him.

Defended him previously for a few decent signings at youth level but he needs to go.

You can’t appoint Frank someone who plays such a poor and unfitting style of football and stay in the role. The DoF isn’t a scout, they are the vision. The vision has to align with the club values which is attacking football and has to align the players with the manager. He can’t do vision thus he can’t do the job. He has to go. He should reconcile himself to being a scout not a DoF.

Bergvall and Vuskovic weren't big secrets (he didn't signed Vuskovic regardless).

Bergvall looks like the only one of the young crop that is as close to a guarantee as you can get with regards to the youth army he's signed
