This is true today. I’m not sure that it’s going to be the case five or ten years from now.
I’m not a data scientist and I am a bit of a baseball rotisserie hobbyist when iI can find time. Statistics are always getting refined.
We’re probably at the infancy of football’s data collection and analysis. Scientists are going to continue to refine football statistics, coming up with new, far more useful categorizations that give a far better indication of potential ability.
There's so much AI to visualize data now. And I would wager he's no data scientist either. He's a DoF, data science is another role anyway. It'll be their job to flag certain data points and visualise it to him, they do the grunt work and cast a wide net, he picks the ones he likes.

He's just stone useless at his job, that's the long and short of it. He's burned through hundreds of millions with the only sort of guarantee of a star in Vuskovic, possibly Bergvall, but the sunk cost in other duds he's so carefully chosen have far outweighed their top potential value.

Brighton, Bournemouth and Brentford have far more hits than misses. He has far more resources at a club like this, but consistently produces poor to mediocre results. Complete and utter fraud. Sorry.

I was responding to the second(?) paragraph about use of data rather than Lange himself.
I’m not claiming he’s a data scientist only that the use of data science in football is going to kick on massively in the next decade.

Ironically I reckon a lot of these Lange signings would've been ideal for a club at the Brentford/Bournemouth/Brighton level.

I imagine those clubs would've been all over Vuskovic and Bergvall but can't really compete with us (or Barca in the case of Bergvall) as we're gonna offer more money, prestige, etc.

Brentford tried to sign Gray and I could see Odobert being exactly the type of player that could do well at a Bournemouth or Brighton. Wouldn't be surprised if Odobert is seen as a seriously hot prospect by the time he's 23/24 if he keeps improving.

Thing is, Lange fucking sucks at the squad-building part, which is really important. Buying young talent is one thing but all the above clubs are far better at ensuring they have an actual well-balanced team and the signings are all part of a larger plan. They don't bring in teenage guys like Bergvall, Odobert and Gray and expect them to be core squad members from the get-go. The whole transition is managed much better and they don't leave themselves short in key positions.

A club like Brighton doesn't allocate 70m of funds to signing Tel AND Odobert for instance. Nor do they sign a guy like Dragusin that fundamentally doesn't suit the system of a manager, even if he's talented. And no way do they sign Connor Gallagher when the club is stocked with players in his position.

Lange is a scout and data guy who think he is a DoF.

You’re right the youth signings are good. Our issue is we signed the apprentice but forgot to sign the master. Having Kudus and Odobert on the right is fine but on the left we have Tel (who apparently wants to be a striker not winger) and ?????????????. The club forgot to buy a Son replacement, how fucking negligent is that.

I really wonder what this fraud is doing right now.

Rob Mackenzie & Alex Fraser don’t get much shit considering their roles at the club

Identifying Lee Kang-in as a good player to be politely told to piss off

RIGHT NOW the biggest problem is Frank

He is the immediate threat to our season

After that though, take your pick

Is it Lange? Vinai? Vivian? The apparent influence of Vivians son in law? The complete lack of footballing know how in the entire set up?

Whole things a mess, lets be honest

Its a complete mess but what makes it so much worse is that they think they're the dogs bollocks...

To be fair, we've no idea what they think

They might think theyre smashing it (impossible to believe)

They might think theyre all out of their depth and are scrambling

They might think they are keeping the club ticking over nicely while they appoint their new structure

They might realise its all FUBAR but have grand designs on how to put it all together...

We dont hear or see anything meaningful from them, so its impossible to say, isnt it?
