Most of the young players that he brought to Villa have at minimum become decent players. They then brought in Monchi to build a team out of it and add the finishing touches.

I said it further up here but he is clearly a talented scout that has been promoted above his area of expertise/comfort zone.
If he were to just be head scout under a proper DOF he would probably be a good hire here as well. But in his current role he is a far bigger problem than Frank will ever be.

This is true, but it looks very unlikely that any of them will turn into important players as things stand. Aside from Bergvall.

But yeah, building a team for now, absolutely appalling. He gives off the impression that he really doesn't know what he's doing.

He's signed Gray, Tel, Odobert, Kinsky, Takai, Yang, Bergvall as his youngsters (Souza and Melia not counting yet). He's spent a small fortune,~£130m to sign them. Not seeing a lot of sure fire prospects, or even prospects that'll be here long term.

I don't think that his signing of young players can be labeled as "clearly talented".
