Management Johan Lange - Technical Director

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I thought Lange was brought in primarily as a talent spotter as that was his role at Villa . With Paratici - Levy brought him in after a 10 year stint at Juventus and he was responsible for a lot of good signings - Bentancur , Kulusevski and Romero being the first three . I thought Paratici was going to be the much needed football Guru we needed . I naively thought with both of them at the club we would be in clover . But instead of being the dynamic duo they went into a personal battle with each other for point scoring . It wouldn't surprise me if one or both of them said "its a him or me" . Hence Paratici exiting the club . I agree we need a football Guru to build a team and then add players that fit into a positive fully functioning team . We're miles away from that , but it would be great if we could find the much needed Guru .
Can we not bring some real

That's basically what I'm saying . We need someone that understands what players will fit into De Zerbi's philosophy and buy said players . It's fine having someone on board (Lange) that unearths top young talent , but it's no good to us if the players he's finding don't fit into our football model .

What are we looking at Kehl? We need to find a new sporting director who is actually doing a good job at their current club, not someone who has just been sacked. We made the same mistake with Lange.

These stupid owners will never learn. It’s better to pay the money to hire someone doing well than to save a few quid on someone who’s unemployed.

Yeah we should really be paying over the odds to poach one of the best guys out there. This role is absolutely pivotal and we can't afford to fuck it up again by appointing someone average, or downright disastrous like Lange.

Just had a quick look at fan opinion and the general consensus among Bundesliga fans is that he's shit. Not encouraging at all - sounds like we're just going for someone that's available with big club experience rather than someone good.

I think even that's being generous to him, ok Bergval and Vuskovic were fairly modest fees by todays standards, but he hardly "unearthed" them. Bergval was on his way to Barca before we swayed him, and Vuskovic was a 16 year old starting for a well known Croatian club.

He also spaffed £20-40m on the likes of Odobert, Tel, Gray, etc.

That's not typical unearthing young talent money, that's frittering away full blown first team ready fees on players that don't contribute to the now, and aren't even guaranteed to ever contribute.

And not one of those players - except poss Bergvall - has actually performed for Tottenham at a level significantly ABOVE the amount we paid for them! Yes Gray has been good this season, but he's a £40m player!!!

Yeah spot on, he's been ok, which puts him a level or two above many in the squad, but I'd expect a £20m player to be able to meet that standard.

When you consider we could have signed Scott and Wharton for pretty much the same outlay, it highlights the absurdity of this idea of him being a great talent spotter.

I don't know shit about Kehl's capacity as a Sporting Director but he was a player at the top level: 300+ appearances in the Bundesliga and played for Dortmund. At the very least he's a 'football man' in a way Lange obviously isn't.
I'm so not surprised that after trying to emulate Brighton and Brentford, those mugs who call themselves our football ops people have an eye on the Dortmund (or Ajax) model.

Set aside the fact they're too stupid and cowardly to come up with their own strategy, they also seem not to realise Dortmund have no choice as they're not the 9th richest club in the world. And as always, Vinai & his fellow gits act too late...Dortmund been shite for a few seasons now, with Kehl (who was a sicknote as a player) at the centre of it.

Seen a few comments saying we need someone who fits RDZ style of play and I've been guilty of it too but the main thing is we decide who we want to be.

The well run clubs have their identity and slide new staff/players in to fit that.

We had an identity and we've lost it trying to chase the short term wins.

This farce of the last few years should scare us into finding ourselves again. If we don't do that then we'll keep spiralling.
