Manager Jose Mourinho

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Here's Jose's reaction to Slot refusing to shake his hand after the game last night. He followed him down the tunnel yelling at him that he needs to watch more Roma and less Manchester City and Napoli.

Never change Jose. Never change.

He’s had a couple of years at Roma and we gave him less than 18 months. I believe we’d be in a better position now if we’d kept him on.
It was absurd to sack him during the week of a cup final, and unlike basically everywhere else Jose has been things hadn't turned toxic here yet, we could have held onto him if we really wanted to.

But things weren't working. I didn't ultimately have an issue with looking in another direction even if I, like you, retain a degree of respect for him as a manager (and never hated him personally like some here).

He's a dinosaur. You can still win with dinosaur tactics in some scenarios, but it wasn't the right fit here.

I mean the performances were dire, but in terms of the toxicity level with the squad and with the press it wasn't even close to where things went at the end of his second spell with Chelsea or at United.

Conte had at least 3 or 4 moments where the situation was more explosive than it ever got with Jose. He was perfectly willing to keep plugging along, it was just that he wasn't getting a tune out of a rapidly deteriorating squad.

Yeah. Jose was willing to put in the work with us. Unlike Conte he was up for building something over time to prove that he still has what it takes.

Which is what he is now doing at Roma. Jose seems to have realized that he is past his prime years, and that what he has left to prove is that he can take a club that doesn't win regularly and make them a winner.

To me there are three key aspects to Jose.

1. He's an utter genius in setting out a football team to succeed in the tactical environment of the mid-2000's and those ideas haven't changed.

2. He's old school about his relationship with his job. He wants to work, he wants to get on with things, what he cares about and gives him satisfaction is the day-to-day practice of coaching, not transfer or media bullshit. (This is the part of him I don't think people understand)

3. He's a big, loud personality who doesn't take criticism happily or well and isn't someone to bury the hatchet and let things go when his authority is challenged.

Those different aspects colliding with each other and the broader football world have left the unique path of brilliance and destruction that is Jose Mourinho's career.

This is a very important aspect and seemingly a big difference between him and Conte. When Jose was here, he bought in. He didn't differentiate between himself and the club like Conte always did until the writing more or less was on the wall.

He went into the job with a open mind and was set on doing his job and making it work. Conte always seemed to think that he was doing us a favour.

I think Jose differentiated himself from the *club* a tad, but he didn't differentiate himself from his dressing room. He's capable of doing that, that was where it went at Chelsea the second time, but that didn't happen here.

Conte thought he was better than Tottenham (which he was) and demanded that both the squad and front office bend to his outlook and methods without compromise. It didn't happen, probably couldn't have happened, and when it didn't the thing was never going to work.

Apart from winning a 3rd rate B competition for Europe's 3rd rate clubs ( spending millions to do so ) he has achieved fuck all at Roma . His football is still boring turgid negative unwatchable shite...!

Things were a mess pre Jose & have got no better post Jose. I would never say he was the solution but struggle with the notion that he was the problem.
The whole club is a mess. It has been a mess for a while now. And we didn’t get our club back when he got sacked. We got Nuno and Conte. As anti spurs as it gets.
