Manager Jose Mourinho

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

So glad for Jose that he got Kane, Son, Dele, Lamela, Bergwijn, Lucas, Ndombele, Lo Celso all fit and raring to go. Champaign football!

He comes from an era where coaching basically just meant focusing on defensive organisation and the attackers will do their thing if space can be created via a targetman occupying defenders to an on rushing midfielder or Individual counterattacking.

I can’t imagine him ever doing a thing like that Guardiola clip showing Sterling that receiving the ball in a certain body shape gave him extra time to finish before defenders can recover.

Looking forward to people putting the negative spin on these words today:

“I don’t feel very comfortable to speak about [what I want] publicly,” Mourinho told Standard Sport. “One thing is what I would like and, of course, Mr Levy knows what I would like. But I know the situation perfectly. And that’s why I say, ‘I would like’ and I don’t say, ‘I want’.

“Because I have to respect the situation of the world and the situation of my club. So we have to be very cautious in our words. Of course we have to improve, we have to improve generally. Let’s see what is possible.”

What's the positive spin on that?!

Sounds to me like he's saying knows he isn't going to have the resources to make us any better so is just going to do the best he can

You're not the only one that says this so nothing personal, but since when did players start peaking around 23/24...?

Even Toby was only just hitting 27.... Aside from Hugo, Jan & Dembele they were all young FFS.

I think my theory is that these players peaked early because many of them were making a fraction of what they were making then, vs what they are making now.

This squad was filled with upstarts who had no success in the Premier League (or really anywhere), they were on small contracts and they played out of their minds. They didn't know anything else because they were all so young.

They come in here and Pochettino is running insane training sessions and they're pressing the ball like demons in games. They don't know anything else so they assume that's what they have to do.

In 2015/16 we're the talk of the league finishing 3rd behind Leicester after collapsing at the end and letting Woolwich pass us with a group of 20-23 year old kids. The next year we maintain our form and finish 2nd behind Chelsea.

Since then, guys have seen their contracts ripped up and more money put on the table. They've tasted the good life, and I don't think anyone who watches this team thinks they put the same effort into pressing the ball over the last 18-24 months as they did in Pochettino's first two or three years. The effort and desire off the ball has clearly disappeared. These are established players now and they think they're better than they actually are.

As many have said, the squad went stale. A piece probably should have been sold off and replaced every year since 2015/16 to freshen things up. Instead we've sold off some pieces, and not replaced them. Competition for starting jobs dried up and that desire to be the best has disappeared.

Talent wise this group is as good as they've ever been, but they lack belief now, and they're not motivated. The effort we see from this team defensively is shocking these days. None of what we saw on Friday would have been acceptable 4 years ago.

If Poch had stayed we would have been in Spam position
Be grateful
You could argue that, you could also argue that Poch was sacked just before we entered a run of easy games that helped Mourinho settle into the job.

Doesn't change the fact that the constant reference to an ex-manager who is now nothing more than the father of a player is only useful to those desperately seeking comfort in a manager going nowhere fast.

Any posts saying "If you don't like Jose, would you rather have Poch" should see the poster banned. Poch is history, Mourinho is now. The only manager we should concentrate on is the one who is returning us to the position he found us in.

The false projection of constant harking back to Poch is hilarious really.

Reading through the majority of posts who have either expressed a range of skepticism from doubts about us going forward to flat out saying he is all wrong for us (I’m the latter) ... nobody is bringing up Mauricio Pochettino.

It’s the “Mourinho will grant our wishes by rubbing a lamp and a trophy for Spurs will appear” guys who can’t keep his name out of their mouths.

That era is finito.

Fuck knows how anyone can disagree with this.
