Manager Jose Mourinho

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

We were completely average but the players were working hard. That's better than what we produced against Woolwich and Dinamo, those performances were simply an insult.

That Dinamo game will stay in my head for a long, long time and I think Mourinho feels the same. His demeanour has changed completely since that night. I've seen bad Tottenham performances before but I can't think of another game like that one.

I very rarely get angry over football but I'm still seething over it, the lack of effort from most of the players was disgusting, it was like they were spitting in my face. I wanted to win that match and try to win the Europa League but most of the players didn't, they wanted every Tottenham fan to know that they didn't give a shit about that competition. The performance against Villa was 11 players who cared about the result and worked hard to achieve it. We keep putting in that level of effort and we will win most matches.
Couldn't agree more what we lose in talent and experience we made up for in playing for the badge and that's enough for me. Tanganga Rodon Vinicius Lucas they all wanted it....they stay in the side.

AberdeenYid AberdeenYid will correct me I’m sure but didn’t Aberdeen also win the European Super Cup?
Think you’re being a bit churlish mate
Like I said earlier, winning the super cup is as relevant to determining the best team in Europe as the winner of the community shield is relevant to who is the best team in the PL. Otherwise, Woolwich is currently the best team in the PL?

Altetico Madrid has won the super cup 3x courtesy of winning the EL, do we then say that Atletico were the best team in Europe on those occassions? Moreso when they got into the EL 2x cos they were knocked out of the CL in the group stages!

First you have to be the best team in your league and then one of the best in EC/CL before you can even be in the conversation. Aberdeen simply do not qualify.

I think against Zagreb the players followed Mourinho’s game plan he thinks there is less risk sitting back in low block than taking the game to the other team and Mourinho is a manager who does not believe in taking risks

We didn't sit back in a low block though. That's why we lost 3-0. The players didn't play, they didn't do anything. They just let Dinamo win. If we'd played in a compact, aggressive low block we wouldn't have lost. Instead we just farted around like it was a testimonial leaving huge spaces everywhere and letting Dinamo run around unchallenged. You can't call it a low block if it wasn't low and didn't block anything. We were open as a barn door.

Mourinho definitely doesn't like to take too many risks but what we saw against Dinamo was players who didn't give a shit. They didn't care about the match, they didn't respect the opponent, they weren't arsed about the competition. No matter what tactics we prepared, the performance would have been the same. They didn't care.

That is month of conditioning of players like Winks and Sissoko where they are afraid to make decisions because when anyone makes what Mourinho seems to be a mistake they get dragged over the coals for it and embarrassed in front of the whole squad. This damages the confidence of our players and makes them less likely to make decisions so they play scared. This man management style is ok if you can burn through a squad in a three year period and bring in expensive replacements but this style of man management shows me that Mourinho is utterly unsuitable for management of any club other than two or three.

I'm not a Mourinho fan but the dinosaur stuff is daft. A quarter of the managers in the Premier League are older than him.
It's not about age, it's their football! For some e.g. Hodgeson have mainly shit players to work with so the default is likely to be a reactive style. With Jose, no matter the quality available to him all of his teams play reactive football. The opposite are coach's wedded to an attacking style of the game, Bielsa is older than Mourinho but has never been classified as a dinosaur.

Fair point.

It makes me laugh (not that much) that he sold himself to Levy as having spent his time away developing a new philosophy of football.

We literally play a style of football AVB slightly adapted from him in the first place.

Although 'style' is pushing it further than our midfielders do with the ball.

Given where we were and what was available to AVB (resources on and off the pitch) AVB's football was better than Mourinho's by virtue of the fact we had control of most games (his 2nd year was really boring football). We don't have control of most of our games under Mourinho.

I don't disagree.

My point was that AVB was more progressive than his mentor, and his mentor hasn't delivered on his promise to bring a new approach. And AVB provided some tedious football.

I was willing to give Mourinho a chance, but I don't see what he's offering.

Just look at pool v goons and their defender Phillips doesn’t look out of place. Kloop instils belief into the players whereas dinosaur instilled fear in both how they should play and also how good the opposition is. Goons look useless today but everyone was saying how good they were against us. It’s basically Mourinho setting us up to play we are league two team playing barca so let goons just play. Shore cowardice football which has no place in a team with top 4 aspirations.
0-3 now as I type. Totally outplayed yet we hardly laid a finger on them! Says it all just shocking tactics!
