As opposed to the new style hopeless at actually defending their goal ? Give me an actual midfield and Danso over the shit that has us 17th and 13th thanks. Lets give that a go and compare.
Danso better than Romero or Micky in the air. Did you see Micky vs Van Dijk when Liverpool had a free kick, hardly got off the ground.Don’t even think Danso is that good as a pure defender. Slow on the turn, timing not great with attacking balls up to the striker. Often gets there to early or late. and lets people run off him. Romero’s a much better defender let alone on the ball.
We need players who can defend not ponce around doing overhead kicks and getting sent off. I don’t think Romero is worth the hassle any more . Made him captain and he’s got worse. There is a 2 game ban coming Jan or Feb when he gets another 2 bookings to take him to 10.depends what you class as a donkey, every time ive seen him he struggles to actually play football. yea, hes ok when hes just chucking his head into dangerous places....actually trying to play football and being sharp, he aint the one.
I know it's Christmas. But people must really be careful what they wish for...Danso is your bog standard mid/low table clogger. He is strong and determined but his positioning is poor, he's not good on the ball, doesn't have great awareness to see danger and lacks top end pace. If he is starting more than a handful of games for us in the PL then we are West Ham.
Let’s not. We need more football ability not less, just putting your foot through the ball or throwing your body in front of a shot isn’t going to make us a better team and there’s more to defending than last ditch stuff. Romero is very pro active, brilliant at timing challenges into the strikers from deep. He cuts out so much before it develops. Let’s see in the next two games if were better without him.We need players who can defend not ponce around doing overhead kicks and getting sent off. Enough is enough. At least he’s got a few years on his contract so should get a good price. Need to shift him for the Messiah….some boy called Vuskovic.
People won't have it you are wasting your time. Recieved wisdom is VDV and Romero are class fullstop despite the fact Micky is hopeless in the air for a man his size. He's worse than Djed Spence in the air, and Romero frequently gives the ball to the opponent if they just wait long enough they will make a big error.Danso better than Romero or Micky in the air. Germans said he was poor in the air when we signed him. Looking at him he looks bigger than last season, been in the gym maybe a bit too much .
I'd take a 7/10 guy like Davies - who isn't top quality but is consistent - over a guy who can vary between a 3 out of 10, and a 10 out of 10, depending on which way the rain is blown on a given day.People won't have it you are wasting your time. I watched King and Alderweireld Vertonghen prime in the flesh these guys could go games without any errors. Its not even close and considering we haven't ever seen Danso in a full first team with an extended run I dont think that's the slam dunk the RODEVEN shippers would have you believe.
Then you remember people wanting to sell Vertonghen as he was making mistakes and people were criticising his attitude.People won't have it you are wasting your time. Magnificent postThen you remember people wanting to sell Vertonghen as he was making mistakes and people were criticising his attitude.
A lot of people wanted Kevin Wimmer in the team, sounds familiar. we started to become a well functioning team under Poch then everyone thought he was wonderful but you could still see his class from the outset.
I’ve seen it throughout the years, Kanoute, Modric, Dembele, bale all targeted for criticism and people wanting them to be sold when the teams not functioning. For a fan base that talks about wanting to watch good football we turn on the talented players way quicker than the bang average ones.
Which is exactly why I said I do not necessarily want them sold. I pointed out Vertonghen the other day with Nevile criticism about him in the tunnel. Think we got battered by six at Anfeild. But here's the big IF you over look. The improvement comes from the player wanting it and the coaches ability.I see little growth from Romero or VDV. I was in the stadium when Ledley King let the ball bounce for us to LOSE a cup final. In today's climate he wouldn't get the patience of the fans they couldn't get to X to racially abuse him quick enough. We sang his name louder as Nutter did when Danny Thomas missed a penalty in the Europ Cup final. Those were different days so your point well madd though it is maybe out of date. Then you remember people wanting to sell Vertonghen as he was making mistakes and people were criticising his attitude.

I think every player wants it. Maybe some want it a tiny bit more but they all want to do well. I don’t think it’s about that really. Virtually all players need a good platform to perform unless you’re a generational talent. The last year we haven’t been able to keep the ball and our off the ball work has been awful for years. Fulham the other week passed through the pitch numerous times without any pressure at all. Players are going to get exposed in that environment. You put Romero or VDV in that Poch team, everyone raves about them as well. I’m sure about that. Do think VDV is maybe a little overhyped because of his pace. He does get rash and sells himself sometimes but in a well functioning team that would get ironed out.Which is exactly why I said I do not necessarily want them sold. He's not. He's benefitting from Vicario Syndrome, where his overall game is so poor, that the one thing he's average at stands out so much as to look as though it's impressive.Don’t even think Danso is that good as a pure defender. Really solid all-round display. Maybe not as cultured as Romero but in my eyes certainly does the basics of of heading/clearing/dealing with danger better. Really good defender.
I prefer the look of our defence when he plays instead of Romero.
There, I said it.
He's reliable, strong, responsible and disciplined.Still had numpties calling him a League One defender in the match thread
He's just a defender - offers little else but being a solid CB.
IMO, that's better than having two CBs that want to fuck off up the pitch to try and score
