Should Spurs have one captain or a 'Leadership Group'

Interesting topic Kosher Kid... thanks for raising. If I look at this topic, when I first started watching Spurs back in 87, Richard Gough was our skipper. A proper leader who handed over to Gary Mabbutt, another proper leader and club legend. If we brush over Judas (no leader would leave to join bitter rival) then the next four skippers are Teddy (not a leader), Jamie Redknapp (awful captain), Ledders and Daws (proper Spurs men). Now it starts to get dicey... people probably forget Younes Kaboul led us for a season and then Lloris took over in 2015/16 and was skipper for 8 seasons but I think we would admit he wasn't vocal. And then it gets worse with Son who just cries!!! All this equates to a club with a country club feel to it. Come here and fail but don't worry it's okay. There are no consequences. We can have a nice swim and sauna in the morning.

Kulu is a good shout. I think he captain's Sweden. However he's not an up and at them leader. Can't really give it to Gray or Bergvall just yet. Doesn't leave too many options. Maybe Vicario but I don't like keepers as skippers. We need a Roy Keane type leader. Someone who doesn't accept 99.9% effort. The bare minimum is 100% and if you drop short of it you get called out.

On any team and in any business you quickly see who the informal leaders are and that isn't necessarily who the organization picked. Son has the arm band, but if you watch what happens on the pitch and the sidelines, in reality it is probably Maddison. In a practical sense, the captain should be the person who will stay on the field for the most minutes and have the respect of the officials. Spurs got too young too fast and need more veteran presence who can lead by example on the pitch. People talk a lot about culture, but what kind of culture are Spurs developing with so many young players all at once. Another worry for Spurs is I don't see much communication from Postecoglou to players or coaches during the game.

Leadership groups are for kids football or nations who have no real in-depth grip on senior level football. You know. Counties like Australia
The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of referring to our colonies as 'shire counties'.

I don’t think there are any Roy Keane type leaders in modern football. You’re talking about a different era completely. The modern footballer is a lot more sensitive than that generation.

I do agree that we are looking at different era's but do you think John McGinn would go and have a cry with the away fans after another capitulation... what about Lewis Dunk... he doesn't strike me as the sort of guy that would sit in the changing room and say "never mind chaps, better luck next time"... what about Liverpool? VVD only has to scowl at a team mate and they know they're in for a rollocking at some point. The Era doesn't define the leadership model. If you are over sensitive to being told you fucked up and this is why we lost and if you don't clean it up you can find another club whilst earning hundreds of thousands a week, then so be it. I want winners pulling on the lilywhite.

Great post.

Look at Newcastle. Team full of men. Grown ups. Now look at us.

You know Perth isn't a country right??

There's actually a big movement in Australia to become a Republic. It would be a big mistake IMO.
A large percentage want to break away from the UK, although the new $5 was just released without the monarch on it and caused outrage.
