Player Lucas Bergvall

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

While either is fine individually for the most part, I'm afraid him and Maddison can't coexist against most teams in this league. Neither is exemplary in terms of defensive positioning and discipline, and while Bergvall mostly makes up for it with his great workrate it still puts too much strain on the DM behind them. Especially if the DM in question is someone like Bentancur who can barely move.

His physical prowess, his tendency to roam around, and his ability to carry the ball forward with his dribbling all remind me of Dembele and Gerrard. The former started his career way up front before gradually finding his way to a deeper role, while the latter started in a relatively deeper role before having his career year(s) playing right behind Torres as an AM.

I can see Bergvall following either one of those trajectories.

Bergvall can do box to box no problem imo. It's the way we are setting up tactically that's leaving the central midfielders totally exposed. If we didn't do what we did with the full backs had berg and benta centrally and maddison as 10 not dropping back the space wouldn't be there for teams to exploit.

Sarr is much better at box crashing. Had 2 pretty decent chances from getting into areas that Bergvall doesn't. Definitely wasn't a mistake to bring Sarr on to play 8.

Tbh I'm still not sure Bergvall isn't a #6. He thinks he is and he has the physicality, press resistance and passing range for it. Right now better playing 8 but long term ...

Bergval isn’t a 6.

I think Sarr likes to box crash but how effective he is at it, is debatable.

Bergvall is not *just* a 6, but he's probably our best 6 right now. He's certainly capable of playing the role.

I really don’t understand this logic, when he’s quite error prone and not great/disciplined without the ball (maybe due to age/experience)

I was watching him for Ipswich’s goal and he just stands there ball watching for example.

Bissouma imo is easily the best option, Bentancur probably next though he makes just as many errors as Bissouma with the ball (even Juve fans called him on this) and is slow as fuck.

Personally I’d ship out Bentancur first - how can you have a plodder in a system that at the very least demands energy and engine - try and buy an upgrade on Bissouma and keep Bissouma as rotation for another year.

Bissouma is more of a liability than Bentancur, but I agree the latter moves like a slug since he's returned from the long lay offs.

(This is Mr Pink from SC BTW, got banned, long time no speak lol)

If he can be our Lampard/Gerrard it would be incredible.

Bissouma? Are you serious? 😂😂

Problem with Bissouma is his consistency or lack thereof, although tbf he's more likely to give a 3/10 performance than the rare 8/10.

And most of the time its a 6/10 performance and nothing to get excited about.

For me, Bissouma is the first CM out of the door.

Whilst I don't love Bentancur post injury, I'd prefer to keep him (warts and all) for another season as I don't think we can get rid of both him and Bissouma in same window.

Bentancur over Bissouma all day at this point.
