Player Lucas Bergvall

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I don't disagree, as I think he'll end up as an 8, with his ability to pick a pass, his physicality, technicality and his ability to get into the right places around the box.

Personally I think that he's being coached exactly how he should be to maximise all of the strings he has in his bow, and there are a lot of them.

I honestly believe he'll end up at the top of the pile, as he comes across as one of those rare players that has the lot, including the mentality and drive to just keep improving.

That's why I've been quite vocal about how much I love our recruitment recently. As much as many would have us buy players that are ready for the now, there's nothing quite like seeing us take raw talent and turn it into World Class quality.

Him and Sarr, in particular, are what I see as true midfielders. Not a 6, or an 8, or a 10, but proper midfielders who are comfortable in any of those 3 positions. Then add in the engines they both have, and you have elite midfielders that are rare in the game today.

I’d add Gray into that 3 and agree.

Does anyone, anyone at all, understand this Bergvall at 10 experiment?

He was our best 8 most of last season. Player of the year even. Barca wanted to groom him into a 6 because he’s strong and press resistant.

I’m really not seeing this 10/second striker thing. Makes zero sense

I think he's got bags of talent and in the moment we needed someone to step in to the #10 slot and he was willing to do it. Seems clear that Frank wants to play with a #10 and it's probably necessary for us considering Richy's weaknesses, but yeah I'd prefer to see Bergvall continue to develop in the deeper midfield position. I continue to place the beginning of Dele's demise at the decision to move him up to play a more attacking role and his all-around game started to take a backseat to timing his runs into the box to strike at loose balls. I don't want to see Bergvall be mishandled in the same way.

I don't think there is much of a Bergvall at 10 experiment.

He is playing there because we don't have better options.

There MAY be a situation where he is our best option as a defensive minded 10 but it's probably only when we are playing a top team and expect to be without the ball most of the game.

Agree. This is obviously fine. My issue was around the idea of moving him there permanently, which kinda looks like the plan atm.

Absolutely

Also, agree again.

What is a defensive minded 10? Not sure I like the sound of that.

If your 10 is anything but offensive, I think you need a new 10. Or a different formation.

Playing at different positions may help his development. It gives a young player a better understanding of what other players are doing. Feels like they are bringing Bergvall along well. When he takes his big leap forward, and it shouldn't be far into the feature, he's going to be really good.

Eh disagree on Dele. His best assets were going forward and always were - those late runs in to the box and moments of game winning quality. He never had much going for him in deeper roles and came alive in and around the box. Bit like a Bellingham but not as good driving with the ball.

Bergvall though I think has the maturity/awareness off the ball to play a deeper role. I don’t think his late runs in to the box are a big highlight nor his creativity in the 10 as his passing range isn’t spectacular.

I trust Frank but not sure I see him as a #10 at all. I don’t know if this is a short term decision while we wait for Maddison/Kulu to be back but I hope so as his physical profile and the stuff he does from deep really screams 6 or 8 to me.

He's a headless fucking chicken without the ball.

I’m not sure tbh because we’ve seen him so high in the 10 position that he’s practically a second striker

And we’ve not seen him in the 8 for a while, even when there was opportunities to rest the midfield pivot to get him some minutes in his position.

Fair play to the kid. If the medical staff, especially the weird bald midget, had kept putting his hands on me like that on the touchline, when I clearly told him repeatedly not to touch me, I'd have had a right go.
