Match Man Utd vs Tottenham Hotspur | Sunday 29 September | Old Trafford

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Heard an interesting stat today. Is this right?

Bentancur, Maddison and Kulusevski together cost less than Antony, who didn't even play
Hahaha probably true, they are desperate up there.

Instead of accepting that the Fergie-era only happens once in a clubs history(if it happens at all), and work from there. They are desperately trying to re-create it.

And all these club legend pundits spouting tthe same drivel on TV "this is not good enough for a club like Manchester United"

I love it!

Let's be honest , we'd all be raging if Romero was sent off for that challenge

It was soft

We still would have won the match 11 vs 11 anyways , we were so dominant and actually played better against 11
I reckon we would have been screaming for the hand ball incident in the second half too. I genuinely feared the worst at the time.

Shouldn't let it distract from what was a wonderful performance though

Anyone seen Gobbygonk Gobbygonk 's thoughts on the incidents ? .I've been searching but can't find them anywhere

It doesn't matter if he missed him entirely.
Are you saying, that if a player set out to go studs up and smash a player in half, but misses, it shouldn't be a red?
The whole point of it being a red card offence is to stop people from doing dangerous shit, not to punish them if and when they injure someone.

Spot on. He slips, and then afterwards decides to make a straight-legged, studs-out, above-the-ankle challenge, with no attempt to play the ball. The only way it's downgraded to yellow is if the referee believes he was fully in control when his studs missed Maddison's shin by millimetres. The slip works against him in this case because it undermines the fully-in-control defence. Nothing that the VAR can disagree with there.

I doubt that it gets overturned on review. And assuming it doesn't, then he probably cops additional sanctions for his post-match interview.

Let's look at it the other way around.
Let's say his motion (that he wasn't in control of because he slipped) pushed him studs up in to Madders leg or knee and put him out for 5 months. (or worse)
The only difference is the contact, nothing else.
Would people have been happy if it was only a yellow?

United had zero discipline compared to those other teams. They have problems and it shows…

They were, much like Everton, completely unaware of the template. We will be very good against teams that play their own way, especially if that was is not to just sit back and keep it tight at the back.
I'm flabbergasted that a team under pressure didn't have a little word with themselves and play a more conservative style of football.
We'd win a lot of games convincingly if teams play that way against us. Sadly, I can't see it. And I can't see ETH coming to our gaff later this season either. Probably Tuchel or Potter and they'll be far more cautious. I'm trying to recall the last time we did a league double over United. (edit, 89/90 - Manchester United football club: record v Tottenham Hotspur )

I was convinced ETH would follow the template; let's face it he has no strategy of his own. Maybe that was the plan and the early goal broke it.

The other litmus test: what if it was Romero?

I can't understand all the pundits saying it wasn't a red. Actually I can, they will all want their invites to OT hospitality. If it was a Burnley player, maybe not so much.

If it was one of ours, I'd have been more annoyed with the player for giving the ref the chance to send you off and I'd have no complaints.

You don't have to make contact to get pinged. Justin Edinburgh was sent off in a Wembley final for missing Savage with a swipe. Mind you he brushed his golden locks in the follow through, which sent him to the ground, so yeah, fully justified lol.

hes slipped before his legs come up aint he, he wouldnt of been in that position had he not slipped. even maddison himself said its only a yellow. think its very harsh but probably about time we had something go our way.

I mean....it was a good performance and all that lads, but I'm still pissed off that West Ham had a better window than us and will finish higher....
Some 'fans' on this forum actually said this early in the season...this place man!....🤦‍♂️

His tackle is nothing. I actually don’t think it’s a yellow either. It’s a foul and that’s it. I grew up in the 80s and played football when you got a hit and gave it out and never bothered. The game is so soft now.
Get back in your time machine and go back 40 years to where you're happier then. Good luck with the crippling of other footballers.
