I think we can all agree he'll be an upgrade on Moura (which I guess is the point, you wanna strengthen each position that needs addressing)
Moura wasn't a starter, neither will Solomon (or Gil) be... but he's definitely an improvement on a position that is now vacant with Moura leaving.
Don't forget, we're also getting a year older Gil back, with a seasons' more European experience, so hopefully that's improved him too, and justified the loan...
Likewise Ndombele, if he DOES stay, will surely have benefited from his winning experience at Napoli...
It's probably only Reggie and Lo Celso that are coming back as the same players... and will no doubt be moved on.
I think the Solomon signing will work out, simply cos we haven't signed him to be a main first team starter, but he will surely be a GENUINELY very good back up option to either Kulu or Son... Which, much as I liked him, Moura really wasn't!

No I wouldn't agree that he's an upgrade. Moura has been one of our most successful signings in recent years, we definitely got value. I have to wait to see how Solomon plays before I can say he's an upgrade.

Back in the day we paid 25 mil for him. Which is more than 25 mil is now.
He NEVER was good enough to be a consistent starter and was technically freakishly limited. Poor first touch, poor decision making. Fair play to him - he tried his hardest and worked very hard. Just that his baselevel skill was not good enough, bar few exceptional games.
This signing was not Ndombele level disaster, I give you that. But if Ndombele has to be rated 0 out of 10 then Moura cannot be above 4/10. Maybe 4,5/10.
Moura was absolutely shot last season.
25 million was a low price then, it's a low price now. Just that hat trick in the CL semi final was worth the fee alone. Yeah a limited player but chipped in with some important goals and assists, you should always be thankful for that hattrick.
I'm not arguing that, I said he's been good value and will wait to see if Solomon can do better.
I've always said he was good value for 25m but it's not too hard to become a villain amongst supporters.
You can click all the disagrees you want, but Moura was still a flop. Flop that produced some brilliant moments, I agree. But all in all, still a flop. He helped us to final, true. If he would have actually won the final... you could have a point. But unfortunately it did not.
But... let's talk numbers. All following is based on Transfermarkt data.
Lucas Moura has been this club 16th most expensive signing throughout history. "Low price now, low price then" - absolute garbage statmeent and debunked with this fact alone. But at the time of the transfer, he was in fact SIXTH MOST EXPENSIVE signing of Tottenham Hotspur. So that is factually absolutely idiotic claim, like this would have been cheap deal.
Now Moura stayed with us for 5,5 years & seasons. Within that time he played 12 214 minutes for us. This is equal with ~136 full games. That is equivalent of 25 games in a season across all competitions. At the same time, we averaged 50+ games per season. So he played less than half of minutes. So he was not the starting player.
Also, transfer fee is only one part of overall cost. In terms of the simply calculatable costs, net outlay for each player can be calculated as -
PURCHASE PRICE + AGENT FEES&SIGNING BONUSES + SALARIES-SALES PRICE.
In case of Moura, this means
28,4 mEUR + 0 (not aware of those bonus amounts at least) + 27 mEUR (88 th£ per week, 5,5 years) - 0 EUR = 55,4 mEUR.
So at the time of transfer, 6th most expensive player who never managed to play himself into starting XI consistently and whose cost across his time with us was 55,4 mEUR = poor transfer.
Once more - not Spurs worst transfer and not even near. But it was a poor transfer.
Will he be linking up with the squad once he completes his quest to trek up a mountain and drop a magic ring into a volcano?

The fact that we did not win the final is not only down to Moura but ALL our players and the manager as well. I never thought I'd ever see us in the champions league final but his goals got us there. If we had won the final but didnt score or still played shit, you would be saying the same thing now. The fact that he was our 6th most expensive signing just means we had a low net spend and didn't often spend very high transfer fee. There is a whole host of players that we had that were cheaper but rotten value.
Wait what... so the fact that he got us to final was soley on him, but the fact we did not actually win the trophy was on ALL players? That is ... some quite weird logic I have to say...
By that logic Moura was utter shit, it took Llorente to score a goal that even got us to SF of CL...

Moura was a poor transfer all in all. One of the most expensive in our history at the point of signing and never lived up to expectations. Ofc it was partly fault of the club, it was visible long time ago that he was not good enough and should have been moved on much earlier. Keeping subpar players has been significant part of our fall from grace in past 5 years
