One of the worst performances I've seen all season. And we got Sonny, Biss, Brennan, Richarlison, Timo, Dragusin...

Sheeesshh... Freshly joined 19yo striker had lot of shots and made it to great positions but did not score a hat-trick, what a fucking dross, right o_Oo_O

I mean, yea, his finishing boots were not on yesterday. Cannot argue with that. And in 2 or 3 passes he kind of misread the situation or made the pass too soft. Not a brilliant game from him, agreed. But "one of the worst performances I've seen all season" ? WHAT? HOW? IN WHAT WAY? Not even close to that. But he was in right places. He showed brilliant first touch. And thing I like most about him - he is pressing and urging others (!) to help him in the press. He is not someone to hide or take a backseat. He is literally pushing others much more than our senior squad members.

I don't want to lift up Tel by pulling others down, but surely here has been PLENTY of worst one-off performances. For example some Johnson (you know, British lad that was brought from another EPL side?) been missing for full 90 minutes at times. Or some Sonny performance maybe in like mid-december (for example Liverpool 6:3 shocker)? Or I mean literally Radu getting sent off in first half (!) in EL ?!?

Had 7 shots yesterday, felt like more tbh.
Even though none of them went in, most were on target and that gave the keeper and defence something to think about.

Liverpool didn't have a single shot in the 2nd half at home to Wolves yesterday and were in danger of throwing away a 2-0 half time lead. Their record of that is 118 times they have been 2 up and 116 times they won. With 2 draws. The fact they didn't have a single shot in that 2nd half was big IMO.

So I'd rather have a player shooting and not scoring than not shooting at all.
Agree. Even though we had much composed possession in the first half I thought it was on paper a failure as we posted less shots overall. We did create a goal, which many admitted was somewhat fortunate finish despite the delivery being into a dangerous area. Second half was bludgeoned chaos but at least we created a great many more chances. Absolutely it's better to create more chances rather than not.

Great post.

Having 7 shots is fantastic in 1st PL start. It means he was finding space and getting into good positions. He will improve with game time as well.

You can't score if you don't shoot.

Sadly he simply doesn't look like a centre forward to me. His back to goal play just isn't there, he doesn't hold onto the ball well enough. And doesn't make up for that with his shooting, which was pretty terrible let's be frank.

I know he's only 19, so he may well learn it in time. But we don't have time. We have 3 months to decide whether he's worth paying 50m for. And right now that's looking like a flat out 'no'.

Maybe he'd look better on the left, but that Villa game didn't impress me either. He's behind Son, Odobert, and possibly Moore for that role.

Watch the game back you might see it differently

The way he delayed and peeled back for the left foot chance from the Son cut back. He’d read the opportunity before the ball even reached Son.

Watch the way he was constantly calling the press forward, despite only being 19 and at a new club. That’s character and confidence.

Watch the runs he makes that we didn’t find. Bentancur missed a really one second half after turning Utd over in our third. He had 7 shots because he absolutely has the box instincts of a striker.

I don’t think anyone will fight you on the final execution vs UTD but it’s not unusual for any player to take a while to get match sharp at PL tempo. He’s already scored one, if he moves like that at Ipswich, he will score another one imo

He's blatantly a Son successor. One that may be able to "Wing it" as a CF when needed, whereas Son never really could.

His movement for the chance madders dinked it into him was very clever. He wasn’t great on Sunday and was trying things and they weren’t coming off but if they do he’d look incredible. To have 7 shots is very good and on another day he might just put a few of them away. He will be a good player for us.

Bottom line is when alls fit.. he's a bloody good option .

Apparently had 0.7 xG on his own..,

If he can do that most games he’s going to bag goals upon goals.

Think we just need to lower expectations. The fact he was valued over 50m and came from Bayern, I think some fans assumed he would immediately be one of our best players. He's not there yet.

He's a very talented 19 year old who has the potential to develop into a world class player. Is he better than Solanke? No.Miles off in terms of build up play and holding the ball up. Is he as good off the left as a prime Son? Nowhere near those levels yet!

But he's probably just as good as our other forward options and given Son's current form and Kulusevski preferring to play centrally, I can see him starting most games. He's only 19 so can only get better. Still very raw and he's not going to be a gamechanger this season so just accept that now and anything else is a bonus.
