For 50m? Because that's what he'll cost.

Dunno about you but I want more than a "rotation option with potential" for that money.
Yeah I agree ..50 mil sounds a fuc of a lot...and I'm sort of in agreement with you in principal. But we pay 30 for gray, and he'd not played any prem footie.🤔. this boy comes from top end European clubs..and like gray, highly rated but unproven... So in that light the money could be justified... But in truth the football transfer world is fuckin nuts and has absolutely no touch with reality

Why on Earth would we make that decision now? The whole point of this loan is we have three months to take a good look at him and see if he fits. 50m is what he'll cost and that's not chump change - think of the right winger profile we could get with that cash.

Reminds me of last year when people were talking about making Werner permanent after 2 loan games. What a great call that would have turned out to be.

Let's take our time, see how he does, not rush into anything. For now he's certainly not looking like a 50m player.

I think it is more about whether Tel wants to stay with us rather than whether we want him (Ange has already said he has not brought him here just for 6 months). Tel is considered a world top talent and is better than most of our other players. Gray £40M, Johnson £50M etc. Young players cost a premium these days.

We have built up rather a collection of WFs ... Johnson, Yang, Son, Richarlison, Odobert, Moore, Werner, Kulusevski, Tel, Solomon and Gil. Personally I think Tel, Moore and Odobert have the highest ceilings, and that Kulu should not be considered a RWF after this season. If we are not in Europe next season, we only really need 4-5 WFs maximum. The good thing about Tel is he can play across all three forward positions.

Next season I'd keep Tel (primarily as a WF and not a ST), Odobert, Moore, Johnson, and retain Son for one more season (minutes managed). I'd not renew Werner, loan out Yang, and sell Richarlison, Solomon and Gil (whose transfer fees would pay for Tel). The main problem is that they all are better on the left except Johnson, but think in Ange's system Tel may be better from the right so he goes outside more often rather inside.

Apparently we tried to buy him in January, if that's the case the whole point of the loan is to get a player in and added convince him to join

Whether that should be the point is a different question.

I guess that depends on the conversation we had with him to recruit him.

But he’s the Richy replacement so I’m not that fussed about the winger we could get with that money. We need a star winger as well most likely. But from the RW imo

Which happens to many players. It's how he adapts to the challenge abd how we as a team, maximise the space that's created.

Either way, it's far too soon for any in-depth assessment.
Think it's a good thing to be able to effectively play on either side....he's got extremely quick feet, which helps and he can ping a decent ball in from either side.. but he's young and has plenty of time to progress

Post Caption makes this about Ange but it’s not imo. It’s more about the character types that our recruitment model goes for. This is another young guy who is mature way beyond his years and has a shit load of confidence without being a cocky little shit.

It’s been a rough year but in the long run I’m still very encouraged by where we can reach with this policy.

Really impressive interview. Love the stuff about helping his grandad farm in Guadeloupe when he goes back. Mature young lad. Now he just needs minutes and lots of them to learn the PL.

Feels like you've written all this based on his flashy name rather than what he's shown on the pitch. There's reason Bayern were so willing to let him go. He wouldn't be the first kid to stall at 17, make no progress, and end up having a mediocre career.

Open your eyes and make a judgement about what you're seeing. Don't just follow the buzz.

Maybe you’re the one who should open your eyes because right now your judgement is bang wrong.

You’re wrong. Simple as that.

How can you say he is better when he only played 1 game for us......
I remember people praised Johnson early and look how he turned out.
So lets see how he does and not get too excited.

Right now with Kane likely injured I've just read about Bayern regretting letting him go. That's with their other options
