Player Mathys Tel

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

2 goals ?

One pen which he didn't win.

One Johnson cross which hit Tel and went in - Tel knew nothing about it.

Moore at age 17 (18 in August) plays at LW and has looked good for his age.

So no point in buying Tel unless we are really sure he's close to a finished article. Right now jury is out on him being worth more than £20m max as a punt - looks far less developed than Odobert bought for £25m - same age as Tel

Not worried by Tel blocking Moore long term because Tel will be a CF in the next year or 2.

He can play wide for now while he gets physically adapted to the PL and then central he goes like Isak when he took a year to fully adjust to playing central for Newcastle

I am extremely worried by Tel taking minutes off Moore as various managers over the last 10 years have screwed up the chances of getting any Club trained players - and with more games through uefa change in european competition formats and fifa taking up more and more of summers so players come back only a week or so before season starts, all of which means all PL teams in europe need bigger squads and have a bigger chance of players getting injured.

And I see nothing in Tel that says he can be a centre forward in a season, if lucky we would find he's an adequate wide forward next season - he's miles behind Odobert right now as a reference point.

The comments from Bayern fans on every og german post about selling him are loaded with Germans kicking off about not wanting him sold and the club being clowns for taking a lower price.

fine.

let them find a mug willing to pay 60m for someone whose loan at Spurs has not been successful.

Plenty of other forwards who will be available with more experience/end product now for less which Lange can focus on.

But if Bayern agree £25m, Spurs might agree to take a punt.

Miles behind Odobert?
Based on what?

Moore is 17. Next year turns 18, then the season after that will be the same age that Bergvall and Gray joined Spurs. And even then both are really really young by premier league terms.

He’s got time. A lot changes for the player at that age and 2 years for a pro club is still an eternity.

I feel like people are measuring Moores playing time against someone like Yamal, which is crazy. I doubt even Yamal would have that much at 16-17 in the PL.

Think the fee will be negotiated down, it's in Bayern's best interests to sell him and I think Tel would be happy to stay at Spurs IMO.

focus on Tel and watch what we've seen from Odobert.

Odobert has a lot more experience than Tel - a full season in PL and and a full season in French League for Odobert and a stop and go season with Bayern for Tel and half a dozen games in PL .... and boy does it show. Sure Tel has potential to improve, not doubting that. But as a ready made experienced player .... no he is not

Bergvall and Gray both joined Spurs aged 18, not 19 (Gray 19 in March 2025, Bergvall 19 in February 2025).

Moore is aged 18 in August 2025 and next season (providing he is NOT blocked by the likes of Tel) he should get a reasonable amount of minutes with his real break though season being 2016/17 aged 19. Although Moore is quite well developed physically for his age, it will be natural for him to develop more muscle etc allowing him to better compete in PL over next year - hence my suggested development path.

And yes this season, Moore aged 17 (not 16) played more than expected due to injuries to other, and but for a virus taking him out for 2 months, might well have played more. But I'm very happy with his development - and btw for several years he's been regarded as perhaps the best player in his age group in UK, so we certainly do want to carefully manage his development.

We definitely want to make sure Moore gets his opportunities. And he will because he’s a massive talent and seems to have his head firmly on his shoulders.

I just don’t see Tel getting in his way because he’s probably not a LW long term. If we signed a senior, ready-now LW in their mid 20’s then it would be different. But Tel is just a forward at this point and all 3 of him, Odobert and Moore look just as happy to play on either side and in Tels case, through the middle

The important thing to note is that Tel is only 19 and this is the first run of first team games in his career (he only played 7 times for Rennes before signing for Bayern at 16) and was understandably a bit part player for them. Playing him at CF when Solanke was injured was detrimental as he was not up to speed with the PL and has never really been a back to play striker. I think he is improving with each game and will be a massive player in a year’s time, so we should buy him this summer if possible. I also think he is not suited to being a winger in Ange’s system (nor is Son BTW) and that if Ange is our manager he’d be better on the right (to be able to go on the outside more and put balls across goal).

The desperation to see a player in this thread is laughable.

If he was that talented why is one of the biggest clubs in the world practically giving him away?

Oh I get it, the TFC experts know better.

Kane: Goals 24 in 28 7 Assists
Gnarby: Goals 6 in 24 4 Assists
Coman: Goals 5 in 24 4 Assists
Sane: Goals 9 in 26 4 Assists
Olise: Goals 8 in 30 11 Assists

Who you dropping?

Tel is just 19, that is one reason why he can't get in that forward line. It's Kompany's first season and he has to deliver a Championship.

If Kompany doesn't fancy him, then the kid at least isn't trying to milk a salary and wants to move to get first team football.

Perhaps if you did a little research then you would know why Tel is looking to move.

100% agree with this.

Great potential and can play across the front three positions, though I would prefer him to play on the left. Offers so much more than Son.

Give him a run in the team and I think we will see him settle in for next season under a new manager.

Amazing to me that this debate is polarizing.

I think the season has been so shit in the PL that people are resisting any potential positive.

He needs to show a lot more if he even wants to stay here. Flashes of potential, but we need someone properly good and a better option than Solanke at centre forward, which I don't see Tel bringing enough to for regular league games.

If they could get him for not ridiculous money and also get someone better than Dom in, then fair enough...but does anyone honestly see that happening?

I may be reading your post incorrectly but are you saying that Tel is a centre forward ?

He is an attacking midfielder who has been used as a central striker but he really isn't a natural CF.
I think he is a pretty decent player who at 19 with proper coaching will certainly improve.
You're wrong, he's a centre forward all day and only has morphed into a wide player as he's broken through at such a young age.

First time I watched him he played centre forward for France U-17's, where he regularly played.
