Ex-Spurs Player Matt Doherty

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Besides that corner, I think he did well today. Solid in defense, dangerous in attack, had some moments there.
Same. And corners like that happen. He has shown a lot of grit in the last few games and is working hard. He's definitely having his best run of form since joining.

We should bring in a more long term option in the summer. But Doherty is shoving that he has a place here as a squad member and rotational option at the very least.

He played well again, nobody can argue that he isn’t the best of our RWB options in Conte’s system. He’s used to playing that position and it shows, he is also building a nice link-up with Kane and Deki on that side.

He has probably done enough to stay here after we sell Emerson and compete with his replacement.

His tendency to look backwards for the easy ball first still lingers, but hard to disagree otherwise....

Looked more comfortable on the defensive end today.

I'm thinking he might be the most improved player since Conte joined. He went from being more useless than Winks to being a 50/50 starter for me.

Coaching him should be simple.

With ball at feet, make the first simple short pass you see.
When we’re attacking, get in the box and cause trouble.
When defending, put your fooking foot through it.

Generally he’s done this recently, except number three today which cost us the goal.

I don’t know how he didn’t win a penalty for that high boot in his face, anywhere else on the pitch and the referee would blow the whistle.

That type of thing is one of his main strengths compared to Emerson, he gets in the scrap in the penalty box. It’s clumsy but sometimes just having the will to cause trouble is enough. Emerson is so timid in the last third.

I wonder if the ref reaally knew either

I'm not sure that I'd blame him for the goal, the corner yes.

You have to be able to deal with corners in the PL.
Sonny let his man run off him for the goal.

It happens and thankfully it didn't cost us

Doherty played 90 minutes against Belgium three day ago, and now starts again against Lithuania (both matches friendlies). Someone needs to have a word with Stephen Kenny (Ireland manager). Southgate rarely picks a player for two consecutive friendly games played in a short period.
Spurs, compared to certain other clubs, have a good record of releasing players for friendly internationals.
I wouldn't like to see us start playing the 'injury' card.
