Ex-Spurs Player Matt Doherty

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Doherty was one if the worst players i have ever seen in a Spurs shirt. The club offload him saving £80k a week in wages and replace him with a top quality player and we are still not happy.

What the fuck has happened to our fanbase.
It's pathetic.

Fans have been moaning about this player for years, the club release him, get a better player, but still complain.

It really is just moaning for the sake of moaning.

Our Season is finished…

What a mess we got ourselves into.

The management and transfer team need to know that in football, 1+1 is not equal to 2. A team is not built on the accumulative quality but the bonding, chemistry and familiarity of tactics of the team!

By offloading Matt to make room for a new player, this is just messing up the camaraderie, teamwork, friendship, chemistry that had been built painstakingly over the years!

Not to say we can’t do that. Of course, players come and go. But… to do it in this manner, last minutes decision (loan to mutual termination) just smack of disregard of what makes a team work and I am pretty sure the other players remaining in the team won’t be happy about it
Yeah, lets bring in Rory McIlroy then...he can't kick a ball to save his life but the team golf trips will be sensational....

Good this is done now instead of summer. He would have played zero games once Porro was here. At 31, who wont have played, and been quite shit when he has, with only 1 year left on his contract would have been worth no more than 3 million. We would probably have to loan him out last year to avoid paying his wages if no one would have wanted him. Until the next transfer window, we'd have paid him around 1.5 to 2 million (dont know his exact wages).

We've made a slight loss or saved a little bit of money and sorted out a problem. This is a win!

I am not one to jump on criticising the club but they have had all month to sort this out. It really looks like they did not know of the rule. They only had to get either Doherty, Spence or Gil to take an England loan and this would have been avoided. if Porto gets injured and/or is not deemed ready for Sunday or needs resting then Royal plays. He. Covered the LWB as well. We haggled over2.6m extra for Porro on Monday and then just write of Doherty 2 days later.

To play devils advocate out of all the players that we have on international loan I believe he’s the one with the least amount of sell on potential.

Now you could make an argument that we shouldn’t have sent him on loan to begin with, but let’s not pretend that he was setting the world on fire. Even if he stayed one of our RWB would’ve been sold in the summer, and Doc again would be the hardest to move. I suspect clubs that would take him wouldn’t be ones he’s interested in joining.

My biggest issue is just how this went down. If we’re going to cut his contract then fine do it. It’s something we should’ve done to other players that we’ve just dragged along for years now. But how we went about this just made up look absolutely inept at running a football club.
I don't understand the take that this has made us look inept. There are loads of moving pieces in a transfer window, players coming in and going out, some sold some loaned. He was just another option, he clearly isn't favoured by Conte so would assume we've been trying to get him out for ages.

We ruthlessly got rid of a shit 31yr old RWB (who's played no more than 5 good games in his 2.5yrs at the club) and replaced him with a 23yr old Spanish International (Sportings best player).

Agree with everything else. There is literally zero value in Doherty, he stands us in on our books at approx £5m, all I ever read nowadays is "pay the fucking money", imagine not signing Porro for the sake of £5m!!!

Our fanbase (not you) is at Woolwich levels of cringe nowadays, that's the genuinely embarrassing thing about us now. Look at the fucking comments, what the fuck is there to maon about!!! See ya Doc you useless Jose clogger.

Fucking disgusting !

The way this club treat players is toxic

Maybe, maybe not. He would have agreed some sort of compensation for having his contract cancelled, it's not like we could have done it without his agreement. He's also not being sent to some obscure backwater, like Rangers. He's off to play in Madrid. Maybe this was an opportunity too good to turn down knowing that he'd be taking up Spence's place as third choice behing Emerson.

It’s more about the series of events that led up to it. First announcing he was going out on loan to Atheltico, only to then cancel his contract because we realised we had too many players out on loan.

Now I’m more than happy to admit I’m wrong if I got the series of tweets out of order, but even then it doesn’t change the perception of it. I’ve copped a lot of shit over this from mates today. It doesn’t really bother me, but it does go to show that the wider perception of this is that the club doesn’t know what it’s doing if they can’t even keep track of the amount of players they’ve got on loan.

You and other are spot on though, you can’t slag a guy off for being shit and not worthy of being in the squad, and then have a tantrum when the club terminates his contract.
